In our new house, we each got determined areas. We are not allowed to “correct” the other in the choices esthetic, or functional. It was worth it to ask a few yes/no questions about my area (large listening room and good size side closet) as my listening room back wall has the sliding door to the patio, and is used for entertaining. But I have final say.

That's good news for you. I have a fairly large dedicated stereo room on the upper floor of our house and it's my sanctuary. I never have to worry about WAF.

Having a dedicated room for stereo was a prerequisite to marriage for me. It might seem a tad bit harsh to do something like that with the love of your life, but the way I looked at it?

I saw what happened to my Step-Dad's stereo system (which he absolutely loved listening too when he was a bachelor) after he married my Mom. I saw the same thing happen to many other folks I grew up with who got married. They basically lost their enjoyment/passion/hobby/happy place. I wasn't willing to accept that with a lifelong partner. She knew full well that I had been in this hobby since I was 8 years old, had varying systems for decades before I met her and that I had always been knee deep into it. Since she didn't want a stereo system in the LR (Where have I heard THAT before? *rolls eyes*), she agreed that a dedicated room was acceptable.

We have been happily married for 18 years, this past May.

Does your wife listen with you and enjoy the music? If so, you are a lucky man!

We rarely listen together. She has her own playlist and she will disappear back in the room and listen for hours sometimes. Not nearly as often as I do, but still. The main issue is the room and system is built for one person, as I am usually the only one that listens.

When we do listen together, I'll give her the sweet spot in the chair, and I will sit on the floor with her legs over or to the side of my shoulders. Usually massaging her feet or legs while enjoying a cold adult drink and good tunes...

(She has great taste in music)
