I'll get the ball rolling. One of my favorite Cello solos is the Poet and Peasant Overture by Franz Von Suppe. It is a beautiful piece and one of my favorites to perform. I wish I had been good enough to play the solo. My best friend earned that honor.

Don’t know about soli, but here is one of my favs:

Anne Gastinel/ Bach Cello Suites

Just press play and drift away until the record is finished. Wonderful.

Yeah I know, Vivaldi again. This time around Yo-Yo Ma playing Winter II, largo on cello. It’s just like a pop song, pulsating gently.

I’ve seen Yo Yo Ma in concert. He is an amazing Cellist!

I'll quote this from another post.
I invited Kuijken last year to play some cello suites and a violin sonata in our house.
I've heard lots of concerts with the cello suites played on a cello, but the 2 I heard with a violoncello da spalla were the best I experienced.

Johann Sebastian Bach - The Cello Suites
Sigiswald Kuijken, violoncello da spalla

I heard some of these pieces live this afternoon, and was sitting 8 feet from Kuijken!
I will post my impressions in a separate thread.
I had heard other shoulder-cello concerts, but this experience was unique.
Especially because it was Kuijken himself who reintroduced the instrument into the classical world.

These 2 CDs are very well recorded, and after Kuijken's explanation, I honestly believe Bach wrote the works for this kind of instrument.

This goes right into my top choices for the Cello Suites!
