What CD player with Shindo ?

Love it...:-)

Love it why? Anyway, I can help to put Gary Protein shaky theory to rest. I've used Esoteric separates (p5 / d5), the zanden one box (2500s), the Zanden dac and a AN DAC 4.1x signature with multiple transports, 47 labs shigaraki, and a VSE lvl 6+ Sony 9000es with my Shindo, among others.

What can I say? Sometimes I'm lazy. I like a balance in life tho, so I also have a Shindo phono pre that lets me spin my collection of 78s which has been the bulk of my record collecting over the past few years.

When I first got the Zanden, some - at some other forum - suggested that the zanden would be too dark and similar to the Shindo. I disregarded those posts at the time as this view of Shindo is primarily espoused by those who are not familiar with it. I've found zanden to work extremely well with Shindo, especially on my fc Latours. Shindo is dynamic, it is natural, it is of a whole piece. Zanden is complimentary. Esoteric comes off as one would expect. Steely and hifi-ish. It was not to my taste after I had experience with the zanden.

To quote a fellow traveler, "If you have an idea for what you are looking and if you don't expect the easy way of "pluggable components from the land of milk and honey", than you will have the correct prerequisites to build up a audio chain able to perform within a higher degree of harmonic properties. Instead of solely ingenious technical comprehension, a solid portion of common sense, consciousness, experience, sensitivity and refined spirit, will be the major properties to extend such a performance into real life instead of stunning superficiality of HiFi."

I have kept the zanden dac and the sony VSE, both of which I use regularly. If I was in the market, I would probably go with LM as I have tremendous respect for that company and would be reluctant to spend more given the rapidly changing nature of digital gear.

Thanks guys . I will check out few CD Players you guys recommended. So far the OPPO with Modwright would be one of my number one choice and LM CD player as well.

Paul, I think you are on the right track with the Modwright modded oPPo for the versatility alone.

Don't worry about Gary, he's got tourettes syndrome

Btw in talking with folks at Modwright the Oppo and sony are neck and neck with 2 channel audio performance getting a slight edge on Sony and functionality winning on the Oppo. I think dan has both these performing at A+ levels

No CD player for me either. But I use a W4S modded Sonos Connect thru a Metrum DAC to listen to the music I have that
is not available on vinyl

Paul, did you wind up getting some Shindo gear?
If so, what did you get?

I tried to respond to your PM but can't seem to figure out how to do it on an Ipad. Keep getting an error message.

In answer to your query I don't keep the controls up all the way.
I adjusted these at your place because it appeared your speakers were not responding and were a little more difficult to drive.
Either way I don't think this has anything to do with tube failure.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Again, did you buy some Shindo gear? If so, hope you are enjoying it.

I was under the impression there were laws against having a digital source in a Shindo system. :trouble: :trouble:

Someone on another forum posted that Shindo themselves use a modified Studer CD player as their only source in the "showroom" at their offices.

That is not correct. In the Shindo factory report you can find pics easily on the web, the source is a 301 system. No mention of a cd player whatsoever.

Unless you have been there, which it sounds like you have not, I wouldn't be so quick to say it is incorrect. I am only reposting what someone else who actually visited said they saw. Obviously I don't believe this person is talking about their private space, however even there you can see CD's laying about. To me, a CD player would make sense in a "showroom", as you wouldn't want people operating a 301. I will try and find the poster of this info so you can tell them it's incorrect.

When I had my shindo ( like an idiot I sold it when I should have kept it for a rainy day ) I ran 2 cd. They Ayon cd5s tube output cd . Awesome but no service in the us so I would shy spa way for now .. And the esoteric K-05 another amazing piece with pretty much anything . . The shindo has the abitilty to even step up to the best of the best and still see and improvement , the pre and amps are just that good . You have no limitation in quality of sound , so don't fear a crescendo cause you won't find it ;)

below is quoted from an old French magazine article covering a visit to another (older?) showroom than pictured above.

La source principale reste donc une platine Garrard, épaulée par des EMT 927. Le lecteur CD est un ancien Studer A730, car 20% des "disciples" écoutent quand même du CD!

Sorry you are right. I never saw that pic or mention of this CD player before.
Good find !

That looks like a Luxman D-500X's (or sII), however very similar to a Studer A730, it also used the TDA1541A DAC and the Philips CDM-3 mechanism - the good stuff!

Since I was at the Shindo household last week, I thought I would chime in. The two CD players they have currently are the luxman pictured above and a Revox. They had the Luxman playing when I got there on the huge open baffle speakers and Lagrange mono blocks.
