Love it...![]()
Love it why? Anyway, I can help to put Gary Protein shaky theory to rest. I've used Esoteric separates (p5 / d5), the zanden one box (2500s), the Zanden dac and a AN DAC 4.1x signature with multiple transports, 47 labs shigaraki, and a VSE lvl 6+ Sony 9000es with my Shindo, among others.
What can I say? Sometimes I'm lazy. I like a balance in life tho, so I also have a Shindo phono pre that lets me spin my collection of 78s which has been the bulk of my record collecting over the past few years.
When I first got the Zanden, some - at some other forum - suggested that the zanden would be too dark and similar to the Shindo. I disregarded those posts at the time as this view of Shindo is primarily espoused by those who are not familiar with it. I've found zanden to work extremely well with Shindo, especially on my fc Latours. Shindo is dynamic, it is natural, it is of a whole piece. Zanden is complimentary. Esoteric comes off as one would expect. Steely and hifi-ish. It was not to my taste after I had experience with the zanden.
To quote a fellow traveler, "If you have an idea for what you are looking and if you don't expect the easy way of "pluggable components from the land of milk and honey", than you will have the correct prerequisites to build up a audio chain able to perform within a higher degree of harmonic properties. Instead of solely ingenious technical comprehension, a solid portion of common sense, consciousness, experience, sensitivity and refined spirit, will be the major properties to extend such a performance into real life instead of stunning superficiality of HiFi."
I have kept the zanden dac and the sony VSE, both of which I use regularly. If I was in the market, I would probably go with LM as I have tremendous respect for that company and would be reluctant to spend more given the rapidly changing nature of digital gear.
