What brands have fallen off the radar?

I think that all of these brands below are gone:
Threshold
Sumo
Perreaux
Tandberg
Hitachi
Kyocera
Nikko
Krell
CJ
Yamaha
Carver
Mark Levinson
Tandberg
Apogee
Adcom

Nope, these are still here:
Krell
CJ
Yamaha
Carver

Yamaha is all over with A/V receivers and soundbars.
Carver was at Axpona this year. Carver 350 tube amps use some technology that allows the tubes to run very cool, the guy could actually grab an output tube with his hands, the amp was on all day, allows the tubes to last a long time too.
Conrad & Johnson sold the company to one of their employees. As far as I know they are holing their own.
Krell.... I believe they are still holding on but out of the four their future is debateable.

Why EMM? I've always thought they were kind of niche/under the radar to begin with (other than show mentions, no mainstream press) but they seem to have been busy putting out new versions of older gear and introducing new flagship models while also branching out into amplifiers.

Parker

Indeed. EMM labs and dCS are the leading companies for high end DACs and transports as far as I know.

I think that all of these brands below are gone:
Threshold still around
Sumo not sure
Perreaux still around
Tandberg not sure
Hitachi TV's
Kyocera not sure
Nikko not sure
Krell alive and kicking
CJ alive and kicking
Yamaha alive and kicking
Carver coming back alive
Mark Levinson alive and kicking
Tandberg not sure
Apogee not sure
Adcom alive and kicking

Some brands I've noticed nobody talks about anymore but are still alive:

YBA
Halcro (new owners)
Straightwire
XLO
Sound Labs
Wisdom
Unison
Pathos
Ayon
Blue Circle

Just to name of few.

Threshold has been gone for years. Nelson moved on to form his name sake Pass Labs and the rest are now Coda, they were something else before Coda but the brainis failing me at this point. Ah, Continnuem

I do believe that Conrad Johnson, Carver, and Yamaha are all doing well or resurging as the case may be.

Wow, I didn't know anyone bought the name, nor, have I ever heard of this current product. Here's what happened.

Pass was still chairman of Threshold when the November 1991 issue of Stereophile published their extensive interview with him. In subsequent interviews he stated he left Threshold at the end of 1991 to establish Pass Labs and have more autonomy in his amplifier design. Besne also left the firm.[6][7] During the early 1990s, new amplifier designs known as the T Series were produced by design engineers Mikael Bladilaius, Mike Jaynes and Wayne Coburn.[8] The company also introduced a small line of more affordable amplifiers marketed under the name Forte. With the advent of Home Theater in the late 1990s, high-end audio companies in general and Threshold in particular struggled to retain its audiophile base of customers. Despite its reputation for building an excellent range of audio equipment, Threshold ceased operations sometime during this period. However, by 2000 new buyers had been found for the rights to the designs, tooling, inventory and the Threshold name. An upgraded range of amplifiers based on the proven Stasis technology were brought to market and successfully reestablished the company, known today as Threshold Audio.
"successfully reestablish" is extremely debateable. People buy up the vintage amps like crazy, this new stuff is off the radar.

Ok I just saw they still have a website :dunno:

Yep, I have a CSX and a friend has two 15.5 on the top section of his Legacy V's. For some reason Coda seems to do more overseas than in the states.

Many years ago someone working for Coda told me the same story. Most of their sales are overseas.

What do you mean by radar. TAS and Stereophile are in like a sex fest over Wilson, Dagostino, B&W. Maybe Triton too. I already let stereophile laps and wont renew TAS. Just such a boring read now. Same crap, same review, and too much analog bla bla bla. Whoops, that's a little negative.

I really can't put my finger on what has turned me off to published info on audio as of late. I just feel the "Radar" is not pointed at anything of a nature to educate. I usually read to get information. I read forums if I get interested in something.

Last quip, I get told reviewers will not publish negative reviews, so if it's not in there, it's no good.
