..... your five favorite vinyl reissues?
Stevie Ray Vaughn box set 45 rpm 5 lp list done
ok, i'll play.
here are 5 reissues that come to mind at the moment that are definitely in the top tier. so my momentary top 5 if you will.....
-Ben Webster, at the Renaissance, AP Lp 45rpm 2 discs, S7646.
when I have visitors this is the record that people go simply nuts over (Georgia on my Mind). and you have to play it a bit loud since it's a live recording.
-Gounod 'Faust' and Bizet 'Carmen', original Classic Records 45 rpm 4 discs, LSC-2449. I also have the 45rpm Classic Clarity vinyl box set which I've never opened.
so many great tracks, amazingly wonderful full orchestral recording, a force of nature. I especially love disc 2, second track, 'funeral march of the marionette' (Hitchcock theme).
-Bruch, Scottish Fantasia, Hindsmith, Violin Concerto, Oistrakh, ORG, 45rpm Lp, 2 discs. I also have the Speakers Corner 33rpm Decca reissue and the Tape Project 15ips 1/4" reissue. all three are very good. in this case the 45 is slightly better than the 33, which is actually better than the tape.....go figure.
anyway......this one has a wonderful tone and is lovingly played. you melt into it.
-Weavers Reunion at Carnegie Hall, 1963. Classic Records 45rpm Lp box set. 6 discs.
super live recording, perfect really. and so dynamic. if your system can capture all the bass on this recording it will amaze you. and maybe the all-time 'imaging' standard. and it's great music (if you like folk music) wonderfully performed.
-The Royal Ballet Gala Performances, Ansermet. original Classic Records 45rpm 9 disc box set. the Classic 33rpm is also very very good (the CD is also very good), but the 45 is to die for.
a Kenneth Wilkinson Decca recording at his very best. you hear buses and the subway outside of hall in London where they were recorded. fantastic.
-Weavers Reunion at Carnegie Hall, 1963. Classic Records 45rpm Lp box set. 6 discs.
Nice guys , I love this thread
