Niels Pedersen became one of the most heralded jazz bassists of his generation, playing with Bud Powell and Sonny Rollins while gaining international acclaim for his many recordings with Oscar Peterson. But the phenomenal bassist, whose sound is readily identifiable with a note or two, especially shined as a leader. This live CD documents a pair of concerts with guitarist Ulf Wakenius (who also worked with Peterson) and drummer Jonas Johansen, the first five tracks from 1999 and the last six from Pedersen's final recorded concert in March 2005

non-classical Living Stereo titles

The Living Stereo title was applied to many of RCA Victor's early stereo LPs, despite the fact that the recording techniques and venues used for the non-classical sessions varied. While one might rightly consider the classical titles the true Living Stereo, a great many non-classical Living Stereo titles did feature superb sound quality and would work well reissued in a similar approach as the current Sony/BMG Living Stereo SACD series.

Living Stereo non-classical titles

Inspired by a trip to Tijuana, Tijuana Moods was recorded in 1957 but was sat on by RCA until its release in 1962. Bassist/composer Charles Mingus at the time said that this was his greatest recording, and it certainly ranks near the top. The original version, which was usually edited together from a few different takes, consisted of just five performances. It has often been said that Mingus forced and pressured his sidemen to play above their potential, and that is certainly true of this project.
