Rickie Lee Jones - It's Like This

Kick-ass album.

One of my all-time favorites!

Jazzy too.

* I find her voice a little too 'scratchy' (her higher notes are not smooth) for my taste (must have some to do with the recording and my source).
Also, some instruments (acoustic bass, drums) are better recorded than others (vibraphone, bass clarinet).

Also, it has to be the mic used for her voice. ...The piano is not bad.

* I'm listening through my Oppo 103 (analog pure audio mode), and through my Integra pre-pro (Pure Audio analog mode).
And it's not my tweeters; they are very smooth (Image Concept 200).
I tried the DACs from my Integra (digital stereo mode: HDMI), with Audyssey engaged, but without much success.
I don't think the digital Coaxial is going to make a difference (it is connected but I did not bother).

This is perhaps a case here where the LP would sound better (smoother).

Just put it on in my CD/SACD/DVD/Blu-ray drawer:

This One I Love a Lot. Click it ^ as always for samples.
Then just Buy It because I say so (extremely highly recommended; good for the heart & soul).
{My best tip today.}

* This one is live (like 'Girl At Her Volcano'), but much better well recorded (soothingly smooth), and acoustic.

Interesting .....

The album I have has been re-issued by Analogue Productions, on 45rpm, AcousTech Mastering. I play the sucker on this setup:

This record is one of my "go-to" when it comes to "audiophile quality".

I guess your mileage may vary. Either that or 45rpm vinyl on Analogue Productions (AcousTech Mastering) just kicks the snot out of any digital medium out there.

Not knocking digital (I have and like my share of it), but certain albums (properly done), I prefer on vinyl.

This album happens to be one of them.

RLJ - It's like This

Well that's why Evange, just like I exactly thought; yours is a 45rpm cut from Analog Productions Originals (APO).
Mine is a CD from Artemis Records (Sheridian Square).

I love Rickie, I love that album, but my own CD version is not up to snuff! ...Sound quality wise.

By the way, great pictures, great rig!

Right now:

Yes, again, it's like this!

* But this time I'm playing it inside my Rotel RCD-991 player! And right away after the first song, it is much much better!
Analog connections, and with Audyssey engaged (ADA: I don't care): it sounds great! :)
Great bass, gobs of small details (everything's there in the here & now), the return of the king!
And the way it should be; smooth and detailed at the same time; no scratch, no irritation, just lust and ecstasy.
...Just like it is in the recording; just like this, it's like this. :audiophile:
...And I bet the 45rpm from APO is as if not as much enthralling and sublime!

P.S. Evange, her higher notes (Rickie's high vocals pitch) are "piercing" into the air (check tracks #5 and #6).
I would love to hear your impression from your 45. ...I'm listening at a realistic volume level.
Or anyone else who owns that recording; check it out please and report your findings here.
...Be it on CD, SACD, LP, 45, or hi-res audio file.

By the way, the SACD (APO) was mastered by Steve Hoffman & Kevin Grey!
{It's on its way, just like this.}

Good album.

Good 'ringing', resonance,
...the messages, from the poet,
the word's expert describer, from real life experience,
the words, and their deep meaning inside man's and woman's soul.

It's a very important album from Bob.

* Classical music (solo p.i.a.n.o.) is playing right now on the r.a.d.i.o. (mono)
