Eva Cassidy, "Nightbird". Redbook. I ordered this 4 LP, two CD and a DVD a while ago and highly recommend it for the musical performance as well as the recording quality. I'm currently listening to the first CD and it is stellar. There are a total of 33 songs on the two CDs and also on the four LPs. There are 9 or 10 performances on the DVD. This is a live recording.

Ben Webster/ Soulville - vinyl

One of my favorite Ben Webster albums! Good choice! On most of the versions of this album, the first song starts with the sax starting off with the sound low. The best, to my ears, version of this album is the Analog Productions 45rpm version, which "corrects" this anomaly. I have a few versions of this album, both vinyl and digital and the AP version has head and shoulders better sound, at least to me.

Yes, the APs are good, also have a couple. Also in general I do like the 45 rpm re-issues, as they're usually quite good. E.g. Melody Gardot/ 'Worrisome Heart' and also pre-ordered Diana Krall's 'Only For You', which will be out in March and is my favorite of her albums.

I haven't heard this one. How would you rate it? Actually, unless you condemn it, I'll search it out, as I'm a BW fan and really haven't heard anything by him that isn't good.

It is ok, but not my favorite. A little unusual for him as it has newer songs on it. I also think he lacks some of his trademark power.

This is another one I really like and can warmly recommend:

Which other Webster albums would you recommend to have a listen to?

Thanks for the heads up of Ben Meets Coleman Hawkins, those are definitely two of the greats!

Some of my favorites are...(my best vinyl versions are by these companies)

See You At The Fair (Analog Productions)
Ben Webster and Associates (ORG)
Ben Webster Meets Oscar Peterson (Analog Productions)
Ben Webster and Sweets Edison. (ORG)
Ben Webster at the Renaissance (Analog Productions)
Stormy Weather (Black Lion)

One I recently purchased, but haven't yet listened to is Ben Webster & Joe Zawinul, Trav'lin' Light. This is pre-Weather Report days.

On the digital side, I can recommend The Soul of Ben Webster and also Music For Loving.
