Hello everybody,

First let me state: this is about personal opinion.

I was in a discussion with Mike over speaker ratings and we both found some speakers with high respect that don't sound right to your own ears (or is it taste?). Especially with speakers it is hard to keep objective because we all have different ears and different musical taste. So I guess this is going to be an interesting thread. Let me kick off. For the following speakers I don't know why they get high ratings:

Dynaudio Statement

TAD Reference One

KEF Reference 207/2

So in order to prevent flame wars on the forum I want to state that I don't want to claim the speakers are not good but just are not appealing to my taste.
Let's have fun!

Question: does everyone think this is ok?

Hans - Some people might get offended if they see their speakers here.

If everyone understands this is just an opinion....then I will allow it.

kef Blades-and Django L heard them both 3 times -just raw sound not musically pleasing with both tubes or ss. Like other upper range Marten speakers however. so much for my 2 cents.

Yeah...I know...I just don't want anyone to get offended. Speakers are so personal.

Seems like I've disliked just about every speaker in one system or another when they weren't matched up properly. Does that count?

Good point! Its how we hear them. The gear, the music, the room, the time of day, our mood, etc. I always like to give a speaker a few chances before making a final decision. I've heard the KEF's and Rockports twice. Two different dealers, etc. They just didn't do it for me....but I DO see why someone might like them (looks, company, etc.)

A fun list would be speakers that we love that DON'T get the attention they deserve. Joseph Audio would be right up there for me.....great speakers for the $$$.

Yup, Kef Blades are WAYYY overrated to me, while I love the LS50.

hey Mike, This is a great audio forum because you r sensitive to possible issues that even a minority might b offended bye. Kudos. and keep up the great work and I know we will hopefully not take ourselves too seriously
BTW-if my foe is your foe(KEF Blades) then I guess we r allies .

thnx buddy,
Nick

Thanks Nick. I try. :)

Although I haven't heard every speaker in their lineup, B&W just doesn't do it for me. They have great engineering, R&D, marketing, etc... but I just don't care for their overall sound.

Maybe I need to hear the Diamond series.

I actually like the 802D's....but didn't care for the 800D's.

I remember forgoing transportation, clothes, food, etc. to save up enough to buy my B&W 801F's. I had Carver amps and B&W 801F's. That was a system for the ages!

(NOTE: these are not mine....but they looked like this. Same color)
