Way off topic - Vacuum Cleaners

Brian, I have been fooled many times by audio forum members' recommendations for audio equipment. Bought or tried the equipment and thought it sucked big time. Well I hope the Soniclean sucks big time because I just ordered one. :exciting:

Don

All last night I was paranoid and thinking maybe I should not have recommended my preference hoping you don't hate it.

But then I thought, hey, at least it's just a $200 vacuum cleaner, not a $20k amp that turned out to be a re-badged Lepai :panic:

Brian,

Don't lose any sleep. I figure $216 isn't even the sales tax on a "decent" power cord. Besides, I already checked out the return policy for BB&B. I can return it to my local store if the vacuum does not suck sufficiently.

I am thinking that something small and light that does carpet and bare floors well would be very helpful in keeping my house clean. I can't believe how dirty my carpet gets when there is just me (no pets) and I do not wear shoes in the house. My area is dusty so I am always cleaning my furniture etc. I guess the same dust is on the carpets and my Dyson is leaving too much of it there. Then I grind it in.

At any rate I am looking forward to once again having something that will vacuum under toe kicks and furniture/bed edges.

Hi Brian,

I too am interested in this vacuum. Am I reading your original post correct in that the brush/vac is still active when the handle is in the upright-locked position?

It seems to be a common "feature" on many newer vacuums that the brush (and/or suction) stops when the handle locks in the upright position which makes for an awkward way to use when vacuuming stairs.

Thanks.

It does work that way, which I actually forgot to find out before ordering. This is so easy to use on steps and light. Basic Vac done right. I am happy every week I use it and just hoe it lasts half as long as the old Kenmore did.

Thanks for the confirmation Brian.

Bringing an old thread back to life:

Our old vacuum finally died (Bissell bagless that I took great care to keep blown out / clean) near the first of December.

I then purchased this Soniclean unit as we wanted a lighter weight tool. So far, it's working extremely well. I love the fact that it weighs 10lbs or so, is easy to use and cleans the carpets / floors like mad. We'll be watching to see how long bags last, but so far both my wife and I are quite impressed.

Brian, how is yours holding up now that 6 months or so have passed?

Thanks again for the suggestion.

I was going to revive this thread and just this morning my wife suggested it to a family member on Facebook.

Ours is working great. Our house is not what one would call dirty as we have no kids or pets and always keep shoes clean or change into house shoes when possible. Although as you say, it cleans like mad, and always with only one or two passes, I have not changed the 1st bag yet. My wife doesn't really care for the strength of the air freshener pods, but the first pod is still putting out a good scent each use.

I love how long the cord is and I can vacuum all 4 bedrooms and walk in closet while plugged into the hall outlet. Downstairs I have to move the plug once but can do L-room, D-room, and steps upstairs from one outlet.

My only real complaint is that everything is plastic and vibrates a little when I move fast. I'm ok with cord management since the length overcomes it.

Glad it's working out for you too. It continues to pull back heavy traffic matting in areas I never thought possible.

Cheers,

Brian

i have had a miele for 15 years.no problems, hepa filter, bags are easy to remove and put back in.
biggest dust improvement was running the ac fan 24 hours a day/7 days a week.i change the filter monthly. You can get high quality filters by the case and they are reasonable.i also run an ozone generator into the system for cleaning air(odors),discourage little creatures(bugs),and eliminating bacteria and fungus.i live in florida , and these treatments really work. The house also smells fresh and we haven't been sick!

I purchased a Soniclean after Brian's recommendation. I was disgusted the first time I used it. I vacuumed carefully with my Dyson and then followed up with the new Soniclean. When I checked the Soniclean bag I was disgusted at how much "stuff" the Soniclean picked up that the much more expensive Dyson had missed--and had been missing for years.

I do not have pets and do not wear shoes in the house yet my carpets looked dingy. I do live in a dusty area and always blamed the dirty carpets on that. I am not sure how much the Dyson contributed to that by doing an inferior job of cleaning.

That said, my Soniclean only gets used occasionally after the Dyson. I always find I need the Dyson tools to dust furniture and audio equipment or suck a cobweb off the ceiling or out of a corner. I also have a special floor brush for the Dyson that works better on hard floors. The Soniclean is a great second vacuum but I can't get along without external tools.

I do not use the "stink pots". To me, fresh is not a scent. Likewise I use unscented laundry detergent.

When I purchased mine the best deal was from Bed Bath & Beyond using a 20% off coupon and free shipping. They also included 8 bags. Blew away the price from Amazon.
