Wadax Studio Player

The changed the landing. What is interesting is that to the right of "Transport" it says Akasa-2, meaning the second propriety input, empty on this landing page, likely meant from a "server" which I doubt would be their "reference" absurdly priced server, so maybe they are planning on a "StudioServer" which would make most of their customer base much happier than a StudioTransport.

It will be interesting.

Maybe. WADAX seems to be using the Gillette pricing model. Price the razor (DAC) as low as possible and make their profits off the blades.
You may be right however it’s all dependent on their ability to actually ship products which has been lacking.

Assuming they are getting production up to the ability to meet demand, several interesting combos exist. Based on a report on another site, it “appears” that the new RAXA DAC boards will be an available update for the current StudioPlayer. For those of us content with a stereo DAC streamer an updated Studio Dac +/- Powersupply and clock is an option; depending on the upgrade price of course.

Those wanting a dual mono DAC with additional inputs (lacking USB AND I2S) +/- two power supplies, transport and clock there is that more expensive option. Unless one is planning to use their transport, unless they decide to use their uber expensive Ref Server it is likely most others will use streaming (Qobuz or a local library) over Ethernet with the main benefit of the new DAC being a dual mono DAC.

For me, unless some compelling reason such as as yet unannounced “studio streamer” comes to market that brings some major advances, I’m content with my all in one streamer StudioPlayer. If an updated RAXA board becomes available, to go along with my StudioPlayer and PowerSupply I will likely take that path depending on price for the reasons I list above.

If the reports that their new RAXA board is an available update for the StudioPlayer, kudos to Wadax for taking this path.

At this point, for me “upgrading” to a dual mono DAC isn’t in my future but it’s nice to have the options albeit a little over the top given the size and price of this “cheaper” stack.
