Wadax Studio Player

Very nice looking gear. Based on the write up, it appears that the DAC has upgrades over the Studio Player?

That is the press release and I don't have any experience or further information however the new DAC and the new Transport are both the same price as the existing Studio Player so one should expect the new items to offer more .
We will find out in the near future :)
I do like that the optional power supply, clock and AKASA cables all work with the Studio Player and the Studio Series DAC .

Probably a function of both system matching and listener preference. There are two different preference patterns I see - one towards a more ethereal sound and one to a more present sound (for lack of better terms). I think the MSB and Wadax are on opposite ends of this spectrum.

Aside from listener preference, there's the need for validation of one's choices once made... especially if one relies more on the opinions of others rather than their own ears.

It sounds like it. I’m a big fan of WADAX but not a big fan of their delivery schedules or response to customer queries. While I now own WADAX I have to say few have the customer support of MSB and WADAX could take some lessons from them.

I really like that all of the Studio series pieces can work with the others and I think that the SP transport can work with the reference product as well and provide a solution there too. I hope to learn more after the show in Vienna.

While this is a Wadax thread, I can absolutely agree with your comment about MSB. I had a question for MSB and called them a few months ago. Daniel personally answered my call and spent time with me to make sure I was satisfied. Outstanding support.

I'm curious to know how many Studio transports they will sell compared to Studio DAC. At a wild guess, not many. It's hard to justify that price point for a physical disc spinner any more, particularly given how good network audio has become.

Remember that they sell to the entire world not just the U.S.
in Asia CD’s are still very popular as they are in other places. I think they will sell and so do they but predicting numbers , who knows!

The same argument applies to Esoteric. When they released Grandioso level network audio models a year ago might have been a bit of an own goal with disc transport sales. I own both and any argument about spinning CD's is now settled, well and truly. WADAX offering a Studio DAC should bring more customers to the brand. I can't justify spending money on disc transports any more.

I think the new Studio collection is well thought out and everything works with all the parts. I have no idea how many transports will sell but I’m very sure the other pieces will do very well.

Agree - not at the price they're charging. It would be nice to have a lower cost WADIX SACD solution - maybe a top loader at 1/3 the DAC price or half their Studio transport price. Or settle for another vendor's CD transport? MSB has an interesting i2S SACD solution. One reason to separate the transport from the DAC is the mechanical nature of the transport and its greater likelihood of requiring service (in Spain?).

Not sure if you know WADAX delivery patterns after announcements, but if past experience is any indication of current circumstances, you won't have to query about how many they will sell. I think it was 2 years ago when they announced the SP, PowerSupply and Clock, I was one of the first to receive a SP long after their announcement of that just two months ago just got my PowerSupply and still no clock. Two years later, few StudioPlayers available for purchase, even fewer PowerSupplies and to my knowledge, no Clocks; to endusers that is, plenty for shows and reviewers.

HOWEVER, there seems to be NO DEARTH of their products to reviewers and to shows.

While I understand their desire to get reviews and show with other companies, it appears they have lost sight of who their customer base really is, namely us end-user.

Yes I really enjoy my SP/PowerSupply but no longer care about their announcements, new products, etc. as by the time (and IF) they available it is so long after their announcement that any enthusiasm I had is to a large extent lost.

So while the announcement of their "StudioDac" and transport sounds good, zero enthusiasm from me

Since some competition units have been brought up and discussed, I will add that T+A has out a fairly amazing Transport/DAC/Streamer unit that seems to be quite amazing. One of the few that are not using off the shelf disk transports but instead built their own at a much higher standard, built on a unique metal rail system (exact method I would refer you to the recent article).

As per most T+A digital units it includes multiple DACs; a completely separate PCM path and DSD path using their in-house designed DSD decoding method. Therefore, locally stored DSD files at any level and SACDs are treated to a much more refined processing path.

It was just highly reviewed in one of the big mags. Although not cheap, it is considerably less than much of its competition.
