well neither is a horn, VS have amplifiers to drive the low frequency, they are smaller( at least some of the them LOL), they are automotive finishes, they are American made.
Gobel is none of those.
In fact neither are like horns
Special? They are both excellent speakers from good companies.
Most speakers that are special in some way are usually some different technology which by itself means nothing .
 
Had a client today that wanted to hear the VR-30 with the Riviera Audio Labs AFM-100Se mono's and the APL01-Se preamplifier. I am writing hear for two reasons , one that the combo is really killer and like all good speakers the differences in electronics makes big differences in the final outcome. That is not to put any thing down but rather that nothing is perfect and in that there are personal differences based on musical preferences, room size and dimensions and just overall thoughts on what are the most important choices for the buyer. The other reason is when changing gear many times/most times the speakers are going to need adjustment as well. This is not weird or voodoo but the reality of finding the proper sonic balance with different gear. I did not have to move them a lot but I did move them, I did not have to change the controls a lot but I changed them. There is no harm, no foul, nor anything strange just doing the proper adjustments to get the best result with the different gear in the same room.
The VR-30 is a wonderful speaker with a lot of great attributes and very flexible in finding the right balance and placement for an excellent result.
