Yesterday I had a long layover while traveling through Dallas. Mark picked me up and we went to his home. I finally got the opportunity to see and listen to Mark's system with the upgrades his made this year - Raidho D3s, Lumin A1 and the Hegel amp.
i knew Mark's older system from a visit I made last year. The Salon 2s (which I also had) sounded pretty terrific in his home driven by the Classe mono amps with streaming being done by one of the Linn players.
The Rhaidos look great! They look modern and very well built. The Lumin looks great as well - a little smaller than I expected but with great build quality. And, I also liked the user interface - nicer than the Bryston software - although I have not upgraded yet to the Manic Moose version. The Hegel amp looks and sounds great - much larger than I remember when I saw one at RMAF.
Well, Mark's system sounds pretty awesome. We played some country, blues, rock and some jazz (yes, Mark listened to some jazz with me :snicker
. I was very impressed with how easy the speakers fill the very large room with excellent sound - no strain, excellent dispersion and a terrific soundstage. Guitar strings, drums and cymbals have a realistic presence and extension. The speakers are very revealing but yet I could sit and listen for hours. I was also impressed with the bottom end - did not realize these had the punch they have.
Too bad I only had a short time with Mark yesterday. He was a terrific host and, as we all know, Mark's a great guy!
THANKS MARK!!!
