Vandersteen seminar Saturday, Nov. 9, in New Jersey

Wow, that's supposed to be a pretty good speaker. Disappointing to hear.

I saw/heard a lot of potential but I am not sure where the blame goes so I can't say for sure what was amiss.

Hi Bob,

Bruce and I were disappointed with the sound. I'm not sure what was the culprit and I eventually will try to hear them again for confirmation. The amps that were supposed to be demoed were not ready for prime time so Ayre VX-5 and the better preamp was used. Too much ambient noise and poor choice of music kind of ruined it.

It wasn't a Rhapsody demo. That's for sure.

Thx Joe....too bad, like you say you never know what the culprit could be. They could make one change and everything snaps into focus. Too bad:(

You guys are honest; that's one of the most important and very solid point.
...You love something in the moment; you say so. ...You like something less in the moment; you say so too. :)
Yesterday was, today is, and tomorrow will be.

There are so many variables that affect all of us, and incline us towards one way more than another (setup, music selections, synergy, cabling/wiring, AC power, state-of-mind or psychological disposition of the moment, room acoustics, our own set of ears, compatibility between the gear and our sensitivity, etc.).

And there is no abso!ute, in anything and nothing, always never and ever. ...Science is constantly reconstructing itself; changing, improving, adapting, metamorphosing.

When I was talking to John Rutan a few months ago, He was insisting I should get the Ayre VX-5 I did not consider it as I know it's not the best choice for Vandersteen speakers. Instead, I bought me a pair of the McIntosh MC601 amp and I'm very happy since.

Sorry to hear about the disappointment but you guys maybe right, It could be as simple as cabling or the recording on the music played.

That's because they don't sell anything Bob! ;)

You guys have been spoiled by Bob's demos! He's set the bar high.

Yes….Bob's demos are great and the company is even better. Totally generous. The Vandersteens were a big disappointment and I am a long time Vandersteen fan.

...And we all know that some of the best gear out there can sound awful at audio shows (bad hotel room acoustics, music selections that we dislike, setups, etc.).

And once in a while some inexpensive gear (frugal) can sound delicious, inviting, comforting, and soothing.
...Simplicity mixed with love.

 And it's crazy that the Vandy's weren't happening yesterday. You know that ANY Vandy's can be made to sound great, there was probably just something out of sync or not burned in enough.

The 5As are supposed to be nice speakers. Sorry that your experience was not good.
