17 years ago I had my first shoulder surgery done to repair tendons and remove bone spurs that were pinching off the tendons. Four years later, I had to have the other one done minus the tendon repairs. These two surgeries and 2 others were the results of repetitive stress injuries from my last career. I was a Toolmaker/Machinist for 25 years and did lots of real heavy work as well as changing tools on Bridgeport machines hundreds of times a day, reaching overhead to do so.
I had zero issues with either of my shoulders until a few months ago when a contractor walked off the job after gutting a powder room. I did not have the time, patients or money to get more quotes and rehire someone to finish the work, so I did it all myself. All of the skim coating, sanding, and painting of walls and ceiling took it's toll and created another bout of severe tendonitis. The X-ray and MRI show regrowth of bone spurs and more tendon damage and I have been in pain/discomfort since August.
My Ortho says I need the surgery now, or 2 months tops, but of course surgery is his food and beer. I have a planned Cross Country Ski trip to Stowe in March, but was informed that my Xcountry Ski days are over, as that motion is another repetitive motion that effects my issues. I hope I can still Snow Shoe since arms are used more for stability compared to Xcountry Skiing.
I am trying to push this out until after my March trip, but not sure I will last that long. If I can stop doing things that irritate the condition, I may be able to, but raking leaves, turning over gardens, and shoveling snow may get in my way.
Oh well, just venting my frustrations here
