Townshend Seismic Platform Review

I have the DHL tracker info now, they left England yesterday and have arrived in Canada I guess. Supposed to be delivered by the end of the day Tuesday. Can I ask you guys that ordered a set of these if you were charged import duties on top of what you paid Townshend?
A while ago I received an Email from DHL saying I owe another $102.77 dollars for import duties/fees. I paid it with my credit card, but I swear John told me that what I paid Townshend covers everything, including taxes, shipping, duty.Am I being double charged here?
I did send Townshend an Email asking the same question.😔

At least for the US, there was no additional charge....

Interesting, you would think Canada would be under the same rules as the US. Unfortunately I have not heard back from them about this added fee…which would be nice if I should need to stop the payment.

Podiums have arrived safely, no time to set them up today though.😀

You've probably already thought of this....a good tip is to take painter's masking tape and mark an outline of the outline of your speaker position on the floor, including the outside edge of plinth and also footer postion. Then use that to sight-in the platforms and the speakers after you get them on platforms.

Get yourself a good calibrated level as you'll want to be able to check level, etc in several placesbon platform and also on speaker itself.

Over time, you may well find as I did that small adjustments to speaker position to optimize given their new performance characteristics.

Congratulations! Hope you will enjoy them!
Thanks SC, I got them set up a few hours ago, definitely a two man job.😢 Sound now floats in the air, completely detached from the speakers. My head is bobbing, feet are tapping…so far I am VERY happy with these podiums, lots of listening to come in the next few weeks.😁🕺

The setup and speakers on them looks great, congratulations! I experienced the same thing along with a big jump in imaging specifics, clarity, accuracy etc caused in part by the speaker not having any feedback effects from the floor as well as airborne. One of the most fun aspects for me was also playing material after discovering all that which had/has either great mid-bass and upper bass or deep, deep bass (pipe organ, techno, electronica, rock/prog-rock, etc.) and noticing that everything was much more accurate and tuneful/musical and in particular for deep bass passages taht the room pressurization was immediately more palpable and any floor vibration effects were gone.

Well. this thread has got me interested... so interested that I have a pair coming my way. Found a set used and that enticed me to pull the trigger on them. Would not have predicted this; just did some other major changes in my system.

Congrats on the podiums, still loving the upgrade mine have brought. I hope you are aware that you need a specific podium to the size and weight of your speakers?

They arrived and think I have them set up correctly. I perceive an improvement in bass and imaging. May try some more experimenting with placement and minor fiddling with the podiums. The speakers aren't that heavy: around 50 lbs each.

My floor is plywood suspended about a foot over a concrete slab. Previously I had some vibration-absorbing neoprene rubber pads under the speakers. Never tried spikes... rightly or wrongly I thought that those would make the floor even more resonant.

Glad to see they arrived safely. Are you just leaving the plywood as is, or are you adding some kind of proper floor covering?
Myself I tried to get the podiums as level as possible before adding my speakers. Only minor adjustments were needed with mine after adding the speakers. Bass and imaging improvements are what I hear too, along with sound seems to be more detached from the speakers.
I just set mine up exactly where the speakers originally were placed.
Have fun, do let us know how they work out for you because most of the users I have seen are using them with floor standing speakers. I just wonder if they might be TOO wobbly with your Vivids…I think they are?

Thanks - they don't seem unstable at all. They wobble nicely if you push on them but nowhere near enough to tip over. The Vivids are floor standers; the stalk is part of the body.

I leveled the stands first, put the speakers on, and then re-leveled. Speakers are in the same place I had them before. I measured from multiple points to get them evenly from the walls since I couldn't see the old outline trace on the floor. Was listening last night, and things just sounded "more"... more depth, air, detail.

The plywood IS the floor (there's an area rug to help with reflections). The house is a converted industrial space and is intentionally not super-finished. This room is the only one where the plywood is varnished and not painted a neutral grey. It was my late wife's office and now my listening space and office.
