Townshend Seismic Platform Review

Yes, agreed. They function as designed and wonderfully at that. I've had nearly 300lb speakers on them since early April 2002 with no issues. "Wobbly" is also not the best word to accurately describe their functioning under load.

Their sonic impact on the system has been well beyond promise, and their ethos is in established science from much more challenging problem domains (seismic isolation).

Marten and others also engineer their own or leverage proven OEM approaches of high quality and various design approaches.

Glad they work well. My client loves his. It was just odd seeing giant Avantgarde Duo Mezzo’s wobbling all around. Not something you see every day. I understand the principles to get the resonances way down low, that is the result. I could see them working very well on many speakers.

Yes, it definitely takes a bit of getting used to when pushing on a large, heavy speaker with one finger, and seeing it move. This is at first disconcerting, followed by amazement at the sonic effects.

The problem is they have not responded to an Email I sent them asking how I go about getting a pair in Canada. Would order a pair today if I knew how to.

I think the efficacy of isolation or grounding of a speaker is a function of the speaker and the room…. Also, is isolation the only thing the platforms do?

In my case, I installed isolation (Gaia I) under my Kharmas to keep my wood floor from resonating. The Gaia worked well in that case. Not transferring the energy from the speaker into my floor removed a level of ‘boom’.

Now doing the Townsends would achieve the same result.

But I wonder if there are things at play which the Townends do beyond simply isolation?

Well how do customers contact them, by phone? I have a sister that lives in England, maybe I have to get her to give them a call for me.😔

I decided not to do business with them / not give them my money where they were so difficult.

I ended up borrowing one from a friend and compared it to Well-float. In my opinion the Well-Float was superior so I have a mixture of Well-Float and RevOpods (among others). They work differently from each other and I use them in different ways and sometimes combined.

I had a problem with a general email alias of theirs not being responded to a couple years ago.

Their lead field rep out of the UK had me communicate with him directly on this email:

[email protected]

This worked for me as recently as May 13th of this year.

This has also worked well for me:

I never found them difficult in any way. They were a pleasure to do business with on two different buys.

This video is very informative and gets all the way down into topic areas regarding the constant vibrations in the Earth that are a fact of life:

You have a great solution deployed with your Kharmas. Whether one or the other is better would require getting the podiums and trying them.

Thank you so much for these Email addresses SCAudiophile, I sent an Email last night and got a response this morning already. They asked me to confirm the sizes at the outside of the floor protection discs.
Now waiting for a response about price (hopefully) and availability.

You are welcome,..that is much more inline with my experiences; John and their team have been extremely responsive to both myself and six other people that wound up getting the podiums for their Legacy Aeris, Valor and other speakers that I know.

They will also need to know the actual confirmed weight of the speaker.

Best of luck making your decision on these or other isolation solutions!

Yes I just received an Email from John with a price of $1895 Canadian dollars, including shipping. I already gave him the weight and width/depth at the outside of my outrigger floor protection discs. I think I will go ahead and place the order.😁

Great review, Ozzy!

I can also vouch for the absolute and amazing effectiveness with a huge return on investment using the podiums under my near 300-pound Legacy Valor. The effects in total frequency range, 12 Hz - 35 kHz improvement, imaging and rendering of total space is well beyond my best hopes.

Incredibly effective and like one post above, readily verifiable through simple tests.

Two Legacy Aeris customers and 1 Whisper XDS report the same. Additionally, a Magico M6 and an MBL Extreme user I consulted prior to purchase said the same.

I can tell you Marks system lacks for nothing in SW. it has it all. I heard it before the platforms and was impressed I heard it after the platforms and was gobsmacked.

That’s good to hear, makes me confident that I made the right move ordering the podiums.
I thought about upgrading my speaker cables to the Kharma Elegance cables, but thought the podiums would make a bigger difference for less money.

The podiums will certainly make a big difference for a reasonable amount of money. They'll also allow you to more fully evaluate what your speakers are capable of in your room when you've removed the issues they are designed to combat. Any downstream decisions about keeping or changing your speaker cables will be better informed sonically.
