Do not fear my friend. I could be wrong but I believe the point was the more resolution your system is capable of the more likely you will hear benefit in a more expensive cable. There are so many brands now, it's really improbable to have a cost percentage, cables to gear. On one end you have boutique direct sellers where some have been known to have the "giant killer", there are I'm sure some snake oil and dressed to look the part, and there are even some cable like Analysis Plus who show measured results as a result of their cables, I think Wire World is doing that now, and maybe others. With that being said I fully believe not all audio effects and/or improvements can be measured.
The thing to do is listen for yourself and trust your own ears, you be the jusge of whether that cable is enough improvement to warrant what you'd have to lay out for them.
I personally wonder why anyone would spend multi thousands on gear then not spend for cables. Provided the improvement would be justified. Then again, if you couldn't hear at least some difference in better cables I go back to wonder if you can hear what your gear is truly capable of. Or, in other words why was the money spent on such extravagant gear when there seems to be a listening deficiency. Notice, I said listening opposed to hearing.
The truth is, again, you really have to try for yourself. Case in point, a dealer gave me a killer deal on some high dollar Siltech speaker cables, I already had the MXT New Yorker interconnects, so I was thrilled to get the higher level speaker cables. For whatever reason these cables just didn't sound right in my system, the highs/mids were good but lacked in the low end, maybe some odd impedance issue, who knows. I sent them back and purchased the same New Yorker level speaker cables and all was good. I can't explain why I heard, or , had the experience but my ears told me this wasn't going to fly.
Sort of the opposite with my current Clarus. When I first tried it I didn't like it, I tried one set of RCA's. I pretty much written them off. When I got my Pass gear I tried the XLR's and borrowed a second set as well so I could be fully balance from CD to power amp. I really just tried them again to appease the dealer because I had my eye on something else. Much to my surprise the Clarus was fabulous in that set up and the more I put into the loom the better it got.
I do recommend buying from a place who allows returns, and best, some dealers have lender cables they will let you try in your system.
So no matter what any of us say, experiment for yourself, then you know. It's not what you believe, it's what you actually hear.
Think that I asked the wrong question....I am actually terrified now
