I have seen this demo before I have wondered if you could take the pattern that is created at a given HZ to build a sound management panel with the same pattern say in foam or wood to deaden the sound at that HZ if you had a peak at that point. As any body ever tried that.

If you could figure out a way to make vertically positioned impressions, then I think it could have serious applications.
Thick felt will help at high frequencies, but as you move lower in frequency, only well designed waveguides and horns are effective at managing diffraction.
