THESE DAMN POLITICAL SURVEY CALLS!!!!!!!

Do Not Call lists don't work because they are supposedly exempt.

Does anything work besides having no phone at all?
 
Tell them you're Canadian. They'll never call back.

I will try that on the "live" microsoft solicitations, but all of the political surveys now are purely automated-taped recordings.

Maybe the best solution is just don't answer the phone.
 
My friend has his home phone changed so he can only make outgoing calls. If you call it, the message says "this phone does not accept incoming calls."

Friends call his cell.

Verizon FIOS offers this option. Plus, you can make a list of numbers that will go through to your phone. Another option they offer is that your phone will never ring and all calls go straight to voicemail.
 
I require the caller's phone number to be displayed.

If I do not recognize it, I do not answer the phone.

A genuine caller that I know whose number I don't recognize can always leave a message on my phone system, but they have to be patient when calling. My answering system is set to pick up after the phone rings 15 times--that's 84 seconds. If I am inclined, I will return the call.

The ringing is still a pain in the ass.
 
I only have a land line because I would only save $5 a month to get rid of it. Everyone who knows me knows to call me on my mobile phone.

Everyone knows to call me on my LAND line because I answer my cell phone about as often as it snows in Texas and people know NOT to text me because it will be ignored.

I do listen to my cell phone messages and reply if it interests me.
 
If you give up your land line, you only have one "extension" and you have to keep it close to you if you are interested in answering the phone, which I am usually NOT.

I would rather have 18 extensions in my house system and not have to keep a phone in my pocket. Plus, with a cell phone, no one else in the house can answer the phone, which is fine by me if I don't feel like answering the phone.
 
Gary has the most convenient idea with screening calls and it's one of a few I employ.
If you have a VOIP system you can block all types of different calls. I have this ability with Vonage.
I used to get live telemarketing calls and sometimes if in the mood, I would turn the tables on them and get them so frustrated that they would hang up. I also used to get nasty if in the mood too and really tell them off. It took about 3 months, but I have not gotten a single call in years.
The only calls I get now are the ones I request pretty much.

I require a land line as it is low cost for me now and I hate cell phones. (I have a simple cell phone for emergencies and that's it and I don't even know the number and have any and all features permanently disabled).

Gary-After reading many of your posts, I have come to the conclusion that you are (how can I say this in a PC way?) a crotchety old bastard. :)

He's not alone.

The volume of these political (and Microsoft repair scam) calls I receive has also turned me into a crotchety bastard.

I have to admit it's fun abusing the live Microsoft guys. If you start in with some of your own nastiness with these guys, they will shock you with their vile retorts once they know you know they are scamming.

Thanks. I've been called worse! :D

Life is too short and there is too little free time to be bothered by people I don't want to hear from on the phone.
 
When I hear a second or more of silence after I say hello, I simply hang up. If it wasn't an automated system (i.e. it was a real person who wants to speak to me) I know he/she will call back. If not, it can't be that important
 
We use to donate to quite a few charities but stopped because we get 2-3 calls per day. They usually ask for my wife and I tell them that we will not donate by phone solicitation and they still call back. I don't want to get rid of my land line because the voice quality is so much better than a cell phone.
 
Having retired from the communications industry(Bell Labs, AT&T/Lucent, I hate phones of any kind and I'm a crotchety old bastard since I retired at 57 1/2 back in 2010. These calls about do you want another credit card, or what's your opinion on healthcare, man stop calling me I'm on the blocked call list(https://www.donotcall.gov/) plus my number is unlisted.

And, hey man I'm busy at the moment, give me your number and I will call you back, oh you can't give me your number, then how in the hell did you get mine, click :mad:
