Art - that's BEAUTIFUL!!! Thoress must be awesome! Do you find them quieter and more dynamic than your previous Shindo gear? Is that an 845 tube?

Thanks Mike. Yep, those are 845's with a pair of triode strapped EL803S in the driver stage. Ultra quiet amps, very pure and dynamic sounding. I'll always think of my Shindo setup fondly, but this rack of gear is really special.

Stunning setup Arthur! Wow, I would love to hear the Thoress gear one day. In particular, the Thoress Phono equalizer has always had my attention.

Do you plan to use the phono section of your preamp? (I don't see a turntable in your pictures)

Hi Mike and thanks for the kind words. I don't currently have a turntable but you never know...

really beautiful Arthur!

two years ago I bought a Thoress Phono Enhancer directly from Reinhard. he was between USA distributors. it was a great looking and sounding unit. I wanted to keep it but it did not like the SMPS's in my Herzan active isolation devices and so it was not a good fit for my system. but I loved the Thoress gear; at that time it was the best sounding phono stage I had heard and not crazy expensive. and the style and build quality is impeccable. you made a great choice. and Reinhard was a great guy to deal with and very helpful and understanding.

enjoy!

Beautiful system there and I bet it sounds wonderful.

I have owned the original Thoress / TW acustik phono stage for quite a few years now. Sounds great and never had a sinice problem with it.

Thanks Mike! I agree with your comments on sound, style and build quality. As a bonus, the preamp also has terrific synergy with the Found Music 2A3 amps, I have two really great ways to listen to the Westminsters!

And then - Mike was kind enough to pass it on to me. Great phono stage , the only sticking point for me is that loading adjustments can only be made by re-soldering fixed value resistors . On the other hand ....it can handle 5 phono inputs. Exceptionally quiet and beautifully built. Customer service is outstanding.

Bob,

I'm happy to see you are still enjoying the Thoress.

cheers,

Mike

Mike / Shodhan,
Does your phono enhancer have the dedicated mono input as well?
This is one phono stage I really admire.

Hi Chris , no - mine is the standard Stereo version . 6 inputs, 5 of which are for moving coil with loading (1-5), 100, 500, 1k, 10k, 47k. then input 6 lower gain for moving magnet and 47k loading. My Tenor phono will be arriving in the next month or so and I'm thinking of selling the Thoeress , PM me if you're interested.

I remember hearing the 845 amps at the montreal show a few years ago and i loved the sound from that system. Totally immersive/submersive. Kinda funny as I found the 845 amps to be a little like a retro submarine in aesthetic.

I see from arthur's pics that the 845 has a more updated look with a new frontplate which is very sleek. Nice touch.

Shodhan, don't tempt me :) That is a really nice phono stage you (and Mike before) have, and the new ones Reinhard's building now apparently have higher gain and are even quieter - both qualities on my shortlist if I ever head back into a tubed phono stage.
