Does anyone have experience with TUC's mods for Oppo universal players? I'm considering using a 103 or 105 as an A/V pro/streamer/pre and just add an amp to drive a pair of Legacy Focus.

I'm new to this forum. I recently had my Oppo-105 upgrade by TUC and all I can say is that it's worth every penny. It has musicality of an uber expensive player. Smooth, grain free, yet detailed and transparent. This company is the real deal ! The product/workmanship is first class and the service has been great. I really like my vinyl, but the Oppo-105 SE has changed my listening sessions to a lot more digital play time. Talking to David Schulte of TUC leaves me with the impression that he is very sincere and has a great passion for audio. :)

Thanks rgallos, and welcome to AS. Can you tell us how much of an improvement the TUC mod is compared to the stock 105? I was going to ask if you compared the 105 SE to any great DACs, but your sessions including more digital and less vinyl speaks volumes. Are you using the 105 SE as a pre, letting the Oppo control volume direct into an amp?

Like rgallos I am also new to this forum and I totally agree with him on the upgrade. The oppo 105 SE is amazing, very analog sounding. Dave from TUC really knows his stuff! I think that you are going to want to use a pre amp in your system. Tried direct to amp it sounds better going through a pre amp.

This is too funny.....
I only wish to share my experience(s) with David Shulte and TUC. Totally satisfied on all counts.
Upgraded three receivers, one CD player and three BD players. All of them showed great improvement in sound and picture quality.
Denon 4311 receiver was thin and flat sounding. Upgrades made it pop with sound and the picture was greatly improved. Isolation of surround speakers in particular was impressive. Bass greatly improved and all other parameters, including dialogue, far better with mods.
Cambridge Audio CD player day and night difference after mods. Full, present and engaging to listen to rather than just plain boring from the factory.......to my ears.
Time Portal power cord(s) to the receiver really turns up the performance and more focus to details missed before.
Every item has improved the listening and watching experience for me and the service and professionalism of David is so refreshing.
I played in a major symphony orchestra for 33 years and may have the worst ears in the world BUT they recognize what they hear and TUC's upgrades have made my systems sound much more like what I used to hear on a daily basis at work. Live music and real instruments. I don't have the expertise to know why they are better but have a strong opinion of what I hear and base my judgement on that alone. This is ear candy and I recommend this company and David Shulte with no reservations.
When I listen to music only I use the pure direct, stereo only into PSB Syncrony 1's. The stock Denon with these speakers was very so so and to me very much like grits. Lots of good stuff but no flavor until you put something on them. After the mods the syncronys sound 'good' not so so. This is a big step from boring to fun and satisfying to listen to.

I am always wary & for me the first sign is exactly as is, first time posters, it's too obvious a mindset & typical behaviour. People don't join forums to whinge either, it's normally an off skew personality

Julian, it's nice to see you posting here. ...Mister LP. :)

* As for The Upgrade Company, I know nothing, just what I read; they wouldn't tell ya what they did.
...I think they are secretive, and they have their reasons too.
But hey, if you're happy with the sound, heck, that's almost all the way there no?
{Ask Kal Rubinson what he thinks, and the entire Stereophile's staff.}

** Are you feeling younger every day? ...You'd better be! :)

Spammers?

* If they have nothing else to say than raving about The Upgrade Company, then ....

By the way, I know at least a thousand links. I won't give any because all the members here are very smart and they know exactly the scoop. :)

=> Just google The Upgrade Company, and read some over at AVS Forum and other audio forums of the 'Internet caffe'.
