The Music Has Died.

We are preparing to move to Georgia in the next month or so. So about 10 days ago I packed up all my gear. Since our listening room is our main living room, the realtor and house stager said the Salon 2's had to go for purposes of showing the house for prospective buyers. My wife, Susan, affectionately calls them "The Twin Towers" because of their size.

It's funny how much we both miss listening to music every evening. It's how we live. Every evening we enjoy cocktails while listening to music, and while I'm cooking dinner. She told me last night how bored she was with TV, and she can't stand to listen to music on the TV music channels.

The thing I keep reminding myself is, that after not hearing my system for a couple of months, it will sound like a new system when I finally get it set up in our new home.

I can't wait for that day to come :woot:

Hang in there, Mark. You'll be up and running again before you know it.

I know your pain. I've gone 2 weeks without a note and I thought I was near death. Not much comfort to you going longer, I know. I just wanted you to know I have felt your pain before. If you have a device that gives at least satisfactory sound with some headphones or ear buds or something to tide you over.....
By the way, regarding the realtor and stager saying the speakers have to go...yeah, right, what the hell do they know about what looks good!!! They've never heard of any home having a stereo system in it?.....morons.:rolleyes::)

When I went through a 2+ year separation back in 2001, the only music I had was on my Sony Discman. :( Sucked but I still enjoyed listening to the music.
 
If a moving company is hauling your possessions, read the fine print regarding insurance carefully. Not likely you'll have an experience like mine, but be watchful of the little details. Should you have to file a claim, those contracts can be more about protecting the mover than you!

The Realtor is absolutely right Mark, you have to make your house appeal to everyone who walks in the door. Some people might have trouble envisioning it as their house with a huge pair of speakers in the living room.

Maybe it's time to look into one of those fancy new Pono players.

Your actually correct Doug, but I still think most Realtors are morons at best for other reasons too. (I'm only basing that on personal experience though, so that means I am bias).
That Pono player is a good idea too.

Oh yes, good point Bob. Do be aware of this Mark, especially if the movers are moving your audio gear.
I was fortunate in the last move that one of the movers was an audio nut and he came up with a way of moving my (very expensive, can not replace speakers to me) in a really safe way. He built boxes for them out of wardrobe boxes and wrapped the speakers in addition to super padding the boxes till they had a really snug fit. Brillant. That was pure luck though.
Even with their insurance, had anything happened I would have a fight on my hands because I've been through it before for something a lot less. In some cases check your homeowner's policy or renters policy as occasionally items in transit are sometimes covered there.

Bob, I'm personally moving all my gear along with some other stuff ahead of the big move. Our new house is finished and ready to move in. I will be heading down there next Wednesday with a friend to help me.
We are planning to get in 3 days of golf,good Tequila and Bourbon, and some great food before we head back to Texas.

Mark, I did the same! No way to trust the movers for that.

That is the right way to do it Mark. I would have done that except my speakers won't fit in my car. I hauled the rest of my gear myself though.

Hang in there buddy. I went a solid 2 or so years without a main stereo rig. Can't say I was a happy camper during that time, but I survived. Somehow... hehe

Anyway, it's awesome to see that your significant other cares about the system nearly as much as you do! Now THAT, my friend, is irreplaceable.
