What are your favorite Piano music pieces?

For me, the Chopin Impromptu No. 3 in G flat Op. 51 performed by Martha Argerich is my favorite and very near and dear to my heart.

Such a lovely melody, this Impromptu.

(I couldn't find the Argerich on youtube, yet Rubinstein does a fine job of it too. There's just something about the way Argerich plays it though....)

The Beethoven Piano Concerto in G, #4. Kempff and Leitner is a fine recording.

I've gotten to know the five Beethoven concerti extremely well. My wife played them all with local orchestras. (She even participated in one of the early Van Cliburn Amateur Competitions and her prize was playing the first movement of the Emperor with the Fort Worth Orchestra.)

If you have a good tape player (15ips 2tr CCIR) and the bucks, the tapes of these albums are wonderful. You can get all 6 albums (2 reels each) for the price of a moderate high end level power cord or a cheap used car.

So many beautiful Piano centric pieces. Here's another that caught my attention again:

Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 26 - Mikhail Pletnev

Here are two piano recordings that stand out in my life right now, have "desert island" status. The first one is a live from Salzburg in the 60s, breathtaking from the first bar ; the second one starts with a great Beethoven's op. 111, but carries on with an even greater Schumann, quite the revelation I find. Anything by these two pianists, in my opinion, is fascinating (the almost integral Beethoven sonatas by Gilels with DG is a musical jem, if an audio disappointment).
