Tesla Model Y Test Drive

Wait until the steering wheel and pedals are gone. It’s coming. The big brother will use statistics against the average driver :P

Part of me loves the idea of a self driving car. The sports car side of me says “are you nuts?”

I’ll give control over willingly in another 25 years. God Willing

On the bright side, it appears they have very good resale value at the moment. A bit odd that there are a bunch of states that prohibit selling of Tesla’s. Must be the oil industry lobbyists hard at work.

Anyway, it’s definitely a new and exciting market. I do feel as others have pointed out, that the rest of the industry will catch up and surpass Tesla in the not too distant future. But for now, they are lapping the rest.

Because of the outrageous used market, many people including Tesla owners have sold or traded in their cars for almost as much or more in some cases than they paid. I think the market will dictate pricing as always. I bet you’ll find Tesla holding their value a little better than your average car.

The brake peddle is still there. I was taught 100 years ago or so when I started driving to feather the throttle and learn how to coast a lot. The regenerative braking turns that upside down a little. But I think one could get used to it.

But as I dig more into the Tesla model, I just don’t think it’s for my wife. Concerns about break downs and getting just any place to work on it, resale complications, etc. I need to do more research into selling a Tesla. I get the feeling you won’t be just walking into the BMW dealership and handing them over the keys and driving away in a new 5 series. But I could be wrong.

You’re right Joe and with new models taking longer to build, the resale will continue to rise.

The one area where Tesla has a major advantage is their Supercharger charging network. If you only drive locally and do not travel this is not as significant, but otherwise it is a big benefit.

They are years and years ahead of the competition. What I wonder is if you had an Audi EV, could you charge at a Tesla SuperCharger?

Currently I believe that the Tesla Supercharger network only works on Tesla's. This is the huge advantage Tesla has and yes they are years ahead of other Manufacturers.
Rivian did state that they also plan on developing a similar network for their vehicles.
Universal networks like Chargepoint and Electrify America show a large network, but lack capacity and fast charging capability in many areas.

I personally found it nauseating. My family too. Many reports online of the same. Adjusting its sensitivity would be nice, but King Musk took that away.

I didn’t notice since I can’t imagine turning it down. When I drive with a full charge or it’s cold out (and regen is therefore off) it’s very weird.

I was taught to feather the throttle and coast. Regen braking for me was horrible. I guess I could get used to it if it was my only car. It will be interesting to see if other EV manufacturers adopt it. I imagine they will and I’ll have to learn to adapt.

First regen is a no touch, then it will be get out and push for true zero emissions.. :D

How about we just ride bicycles everywhere like in other countries. It will get us all into shape quick!
