Does anyone here, have and idea for getting a better rate at the NY Plaza Hotel?

I also like to go to the Grand Havana Room, if there happens to be any members on this forum, we could meet.

I usually go as a guest of Fuentes. In one of my businesses, I am a distributer for their products.

Thanks for any input or help.

The city is so busy this time of the year I'd imagine all the room prices are inflated .
When are you planning to go?

I also am entertaining a quick vacate to New York in March. Any experiance with the Langham Place, Fifth Avenue or The Peninsula New York.
Also recommendation for good restaurants.

End of December. $1000 to $1500 per night.
Yikes!!! Sorry guys I'm from the area but I rarely ever stay over I'm about an hour and a half train ride home. But you should have fun the city is beautiful this time of the year. Cold too. Lol

I know a great stereo spot to visit.... Rhapsody cinema on 24th st. :)

Can't help with the accommodation, when in the states I use Magellan & they have really done me well, http://www.magellanluxuryhotels.com/new-york-city/?fdpc=9992-9803

Barry if you are a steak guy, Gallagher's NY Prime Steakhouse Since 1927 great steak. If your tastes are Italian, http://patsys.com/, the parmigiana & history of the place is second to none.

I thought gallaghers was closed down?? I remember reading that in the paper
recently. Best Italian restaurant I ever ate in was" il cortile " in little Italy right on mulberry st check it out!!!
Steve I was there 3 weeks before the cyclone hit so that could be, sad if it is so as the steak was one of the best I've had. Next time I'm back there, which I don't know when, I will have a meal at "il cortile", thanks.

I'll be in Manhattan end of Dec as well, but a little further south of you. The hotel prices at any time, especially at a respectable place like the Plaza/Waldorf/Ritz/Regis/etc. are all astronomical.

The Plaza is part of the Fairmont group - do you have points or ways to xfer points to there to snag a free night or two?

The Wife is checking into that. It is an occation for me so we may go all out.

Big B, as a native NYer, and having worked and ate in NYC for over 30 years, here are some of my favorites (and I assume if you are staying at the Plaza you probably are not afraid of paying the freight for a good meal :) ):

Steak:
Sparks - quintessential old time NY speakeasy turned steakhouse. Also famous for where Gotti whacked mob boss Castellano.
The Strip House
Del Frisco (yes its a chain, but fantastic steak)
Keens Chop House (old world much like Sparks)
others worth mentioning: BLT Prime, Wolfgangs, Old Homestead, Benjamins, Smith and Wollensky (and of course Peter Luger, but that's in Brooklyn)

Italian: (so many choices, here are but a few)
Pepolino - perhaps my favorite
Del Posto - a Mario Batagli gem. Pastas are imaginative and amazing.
Babbo - another Batagli gem.
Felidia - Lydia Bastianich's place

Oops, gtotta run. More to come, or drop me a PM

Jeff, for steak in New York, You gotta send him to Peter Lugers !! Besides the best steak, it's an experience to say the least !!

Mark, no doubt Lugers is legendary, but as I mentioned, it's in Brooklyn, so a bit of a hassle getting to it. Also, it's cash only, so if he's taking his family, he'll need to carry an awful lot of cash. Not the best idea in NY during holiday pickpocket season :).

Barry, feel free to drop me a line if you want suggestions in specific areas of the city, or specific food type. Also, there are several uber high-end restaurants that are a foodie extravaganza, but a little esoteric, like Jean Georges or 11 Madison Park (can you tell I like food, lol?)

Hey sheng wang!!!! Awesome Chinese food!!
It's been a few years since I've been there but it used to be among the tops in Chinese food in ny. Mmmmm best dumplings and dim sum I've ever had !! From what I hear the best Chinese restaurant in ny is in queens. I can't remember the name and I never ate there. But sheng wang is the best I've ever tried. And another called big wong, lol funny name but exceptional Chinese food!!!
