Also, the Kyron Kronos speaker he likes so much is interesting in that it includes DSP, amplification and cables. The DSP operaes only at 24/96 PCM, so analog signals are converted at the input, PCM with higher sampling rates ae downsampled, and DSD must be converted prior to the input, either to PCM or analog (which will then be re-digitized). For $112k, they need to work on that, although there's no doubt the system sounds vey good as is.

Nothing about the sound , mostly about his coverage on the analog vendors and their wares .......

Most likely because that's the only thing available in the majority of the rooms. Also, precious few rooms allowed for use of music brought by visitors and requests (I did what Mr. Fremer does and brought a bunch of vinyl on USB stick and some on CD but only two rooms among the ones I visited would permit anyone to ask if they could play a selection they brought). I did note a bit more vinyl being played this time than 3 years ago though. I recall when I went at that time there were all of two rooms that played vinyl. This time I counted at least 4 (probably more), in the 50+ I visited playing vinyl.

Well, that is his specialty ya know. He did talk about sound as well from what I read. Even in that video he did (I really enjoy all his videos) he even did a shout out to ELAC for blowing his mind and many more of us.
 
I'll bet half the rooms at Newport had 'tables, and probably more like 2/3 in the rooms he might have wanted to hear. And 90+% would have played his LP's. I know why it isn't practical or even desirable for him to do this (he discussed it with me in some detail), but IMHO it undercuts his position just a little.

Rob, your probably a lot closer to the true count of 'tables as I did not visit but just under maybe half the rooms. It's easy to see why it isn't practical, I would not want to haul my good vinyl around all day, putting it on different tables. That's at least partly why Mr. Fremer brings a USB stick or CDs full of vinyl transfers with him, which inspired me to do likewise. Also, he is Michael Fremer and a nice guy, so yes, many more rooms would have played anything he asked. The rest of us are not him and most not even affiliated with the industry in any way, so not rocket science there either. (I figured I was fortunately having two willing reps myself, although if I wasn't so busy having my mind blown by ELAC I probably could have easily made a request there too).:)
I'm not sure I see where it undermines his position, but you talked with him, I didn't, so no harm, no foul.

I was actually surprised, in our room, by the indifference of most folks when it comes to music selection. One person asked us to play a CD he brought, and absolutely NOBODY brought a USB stick. We were ready to use them, but alas, nobody...

Also, most people, when asked what kind of music/artist they'd like to listen, didn't have any specific preference, or didn't mention an artist at all...

One funny thing, though... Every single time I cranked Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love", the room would fill up completely in a matter of seconds :)

Interesting Times have changed--At CES 3years ago I had a USB drive with Vinyl rips on--no one would risk "inserting" them due to Viruses.

Now obviously accepted

the best was putting on Guns & Roses "November Rain" in your room and watching someone come in and leave muttering "i'm not listening to this"- LOL.

I almost always ask for rock and usually get Steely Dan or some audiophile approved disc. I asked for Johnny Cash in the AG Zero room and they hadn't played it all weekend which was cool.

Another "hit" was Boston's "More than a feeling". We even had people sing along to it (not me, of course hehehe)

Plus the fact that you don't hear that kind of music playing at high-end shows normally. :)
Not a damn thing wrong with it either in my opinion! Nothing wrong with shaking things up a bit (as long as it doesn't involve earthquakes).

What amps were you using at the show, i thought i had seen the PS-Audio amplifiers .?

We had 3 rooms. Audiopax tube amps w/ Avantgarde horns, Evolution Acoustics with darTZeel, and D'Agostino with YG Carmels. In this last room, we got the new PS Audio monoblocs for a quick listen.

I was in the EA/darTZeel room most of the time, and that's where most of the rockin' happened :)

Very good initial impression. Punches way above their cost, for sure. We'll definitely follow that up with auditions in our rooms.
