It has a very sweet and musical sound. HiFi News said it was "just right". It's also built like a tank. Try to find the HiFi News review. I think it's from February or so.
To me, the Vitus not having SACD is a big knock. It's also, I believe, considerably more expensive.

While many users enjoy Esoteric, I've never heard them described as being particularly sweet and musical. They are exceptionally dynamic, detailed and revealing.

As previous owner. I agree with Bill.
I currently own the Esoteric K-01 and with optimal filter/upsampling combo settings depending on system synergy, the K-01 can be detailed, transparent, airy, full-bodied, warm and very musical all at the same time, which is what I am experiencing in my current system.

I own both the K-01 and K-01X. I do not think of the K-01/K-01X as being sweet sounding but their presentation does have considerable ease to it. I do feel they are very musical but in a linear and transparent sort of way. I agree that they are also exceptionally dynamic and detailed. They are also revealing but not in a way that makes recordings unlistenable.

The cables are Kimber Select 1116 ICs and 6063 SCs, Audience AU24SE power cords and Audience AR6-TSSOX power conditioner. The computer is a Mac Mini OS X Server with Wireworld Platinum 7 USB cable. The rack is a Timbernation solid walnut.

Good to know that you use Kimber Select IC and SC as well - they seem to go well with Esoteric.
I have heard your Soulution preamp/amp combo at a local dealer's and they are truly awesome!
I have not heard the Raidho speakers but have heard and read many good things about them.
You must be having a smashing time with your set-up.

Yes, the Kimber Select cables never fail to impress. They provide beautiful sound and tremendous build quality at a reasonable price. The main reason I picked the Soulution components is they provide tremendous synergy with my Raidho D3. Their high damping factor really controls the D3's very robust bass and helps to keep distortion ultra low throughout the system. It's nice when a system finally comes together!

Definitely a straight up competitor with the K-01X at the same price point. If you're shopping in this market, you should definitely give the T+A a listen. It might be the best T+A you've ever had!

Hi Ken,
I am still very happy with my K-01. Adding the Ayre preamp makes everything come together in a Goldilocksian kind of way - well balanced and superbly musical. I am done upgrading for a long , long time to come.
