My wife and I relocated to FL a little over a year ago. We had the opportunity to custom design and build our new home on the gulf coast of the state. As part of the plan, we included a music room for our stereo system.

The dedicated music room is acoustically treated, has dedicated power, all walls and ceiling insulated. The acoustical treatments are recent - Vicoustics and Stillpoints Apertures (both purchased from Mike) and custom made corner bass traps from Acoustimac.

Mike.......You have done a fine job creating a dedicated listen room. It looks fabulous. With the pedigree of gear I see, I am certain the system sounds awesome. Here's to many years of splendid audio enjoyment for you and your wife.

I see it now, thank you.

I like how you blended the Stillpoint in with the Vicoustic!

Room looks inviting and clean, with clean meaning aesthetics, and equally nice is the great gear.

Enjoy your sound!

Mike-Congrats on your new home and your beautiful custom built stereo room. I'm curious as to how you decided on the number and placement of your extensive room treatments.

Thx Mark!

I worked with several audiophiles locally to measure the room with a microphone. Found issues with several frequencies that I needed to address. Also, worked with Mike Bovaird (AS and Suncoast) to determine the number of panels as well as used several of the tools online to determine required coverage based on the size of the room. And, I spent a couple of days doing the installation per the plan (corner traps to address low frequencies, absorption for first and second reflection, some difussion and absorption in the front and rear walls).

I still need to measure the results and do a comparison to the earlier measurements. With that stated, the difference when listening to music is quite remarkable. Previously, the room was very lively with a significant echo and ring; that is not the case anymore. Now, there is sharpness with voices and instruments that was not there before, bottom end is tighter and there is an increase in dimension that was not there before.

I underestimated the improvements and musical enjoyment that a properly setup room with acoustic treatments can provide. Best investment in audio I’ve made in my 40 yrs in this hobby.

Again, even with the very positive results I’m experiencing in the room, I want to re-measure the space. And, if necessary, make additional adjustments as appropriate.

Mike-Thanks for the thoughtful reply. There is always a fine line between not enough treatments and too much.

Re: System and Room Picutes

Super nice room Mike! Congrats with your beautiful work.

I'm curious, what are your room dimensions?

Re: System and Room Picutes

Mark - That was my concern as well. The models I ran indicated 112 sq ft of coverage. The installation is 108 sq ft. I have a few panels left that I could install if needed. Again, we’ll find out after we re-measure the room.

The room is 15’ X 20’ X 10’ 6”. Not ideal as many acousticians would suggest - but the dimensions have worked well. On the Bolt chart, the dimensions place this room in the sweet spot.

Mike,

Are those Stillpoint Aperture Acoustical panels on the wall behind the speakers?
