What are you guys using for an alignment jig / protractor with your VPI Classic turntables?

Thanks.

i mentioned to you before that i never liked the stock 1 point jmw alignment jig that came with all my vpi tables. i actually have one in my hand right now, i use it as a book mark.lmao!!!i finally found an accutrak for $50 for the 10" jmw arm on my last vpi and loved it and bought one for my ortofon arm as well. its $50 well spent.

Steve - great suggestion! I didn't know about this. Will order one today. The stock jig is fine, but I like the Accutrak jigs. I use one with my REGA TT.

Remember the VPI alignment jig is not a stock Baerwald, etc. but something developed with input from Mitch Cotter for Harry.

yes mike if you nail it on both dots within the boxes, and get it to land on the front of the line and the back of the line all at the same time, and it lines up with the grid lines inside the boxes, you have a perfectly setup cartridge. cant beat it.
ive tried all 3 settings i like the baerwald the best but stevenson is kinda cool too.
its baerwald setting was better than any setting i ever had with a vpi jig

If going with the Accutrak you will want to confirm the P2S distance and give that number to accutrak (Ken Willis) as its been reported the Classic having a few different P2S versions.

Just what I need, little magic boxes with tubes dangling off the back of my gear......LOL!

very true

I have used all the different alignment's and VPI's own sounds best with the VPI 12 inch arm.

I've performed my alignment service on quite a few VPI rigs using the Feickert protractor with excellent results, which is followed by the Adjust+ procedure using the computer for azimuth, speed, etc.

Thanks for the info guys.

I've only ever used the VPI supplied jig myself + Fozgometer and had good results. I'll try doing the same with the new cart and if it's not to my liking will then investigate the Accutrak as an option.

I like the ClearAudio Alignment Tool best for the 222mm MT10.

It has 4 protractor choices from IEC to 1r min=75mm which is the Clearaudio preferred & my choice. Seems to do the trick as I mostly play newer pressings & 45rpm 12".

I sometimes think about shifting to 2r=70mm but the cart is sitting sweet & I'm loathed to muck around with it again & then do those fuddly micro torque adjustments & finally make peace with Fozzy. It takes me nearly a day & gives me the ants performing the continuous cross checks.

You guys had me excited for a second, but that looks confusing to me. Then again, my eyes are officially worse now and a paper with that many lines makes my head spin. I also note that it's not universal, it looks to be only for mounting distances of 213mm. I'm looking for something that can be used with any TT. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes sir, got me one of them and a different one as well that I use. I just get dizzy looking at too many lines.
Ah, I see. I have two TTs, but I think at $50 for a piece of cardboard, I might just get one for my Denon because while I use a Baerwald protractor that came with my Shure cart to align with (fairly successfully), that particular table is supposedly closer to the Stevenson alignment from what I read.

Nice find. Indeed, one of them to tame the tricks. I had perfect vision until recently. Bloody middle aged mortality syndrome. Grrrrrrr.
