StillPoint Ultra 5's

Aperatures, is that the room treatments?

Exactly. They are excellent in my limited experience. NO change in tonality, everything came across less mechanical. We tried Seal - Greatest Hits...generally well recorded/mastered but can sound a touch like an '80s mastering from time to time. As soon as we put the apertures in (4 of them)...his voice and everything became SO natural, we instantly realized Seal is quite a gifted singer with real nuance and verve. It was quite remarkable.

Look forward to hearing them permanently in the system. Since ordering them, I have also got a few other tweaks which I have been meaning to get in, so it will be nice to have them all in.

Very nice guys. Are they diffusors, absorbers, combo of both?

Lloyd, big fan of Seal. Smooth vocals with arrangements that are airy and textured. Agree his music is usually well recorded.:audiophile:

I do not know...I think they are not absorbers. They clearly have multiple layers or something in them...not exactly sure. Our dealer has looked into many treatments and only one worked for them...but few would out them in a living room apparently. But these they are starting to install in people's homes successfully.

I have six in my small room
And now sounds like it gains a few more feet of room

Highly recommend it guys
I feel like system has new speakers...like going from b&w mid market bookshelf to an SF Extrema...just a lot lot more dense signal with space, power, control. Quite cool and it's surprisingly how much a room can rob the sound. As much as I expected it...I did not expect this much improvement.

I feel the same

Nelson, can you put any photo on these Apertures? I'd use black plain ones up front, but on the side walls (first and second reflection points) I'd like to have photos from some of the concerts I've been to. Can that be done?

MSRP, plain and photos?

Thank you my friend!

The goods are stocking up in my music room, awaiting the big re-setup. Just got a stash of StillPoints and wow, those minis are some petite little buggers! The Ultras, on the other hand, are extremely stout.

So when I setup my system... Just put it all together and turn it on, or add the pieces slowly over time to hear the differences? (I doubt I'll have the patience or desire to tinker one everything is in the rack.)

Nelson, how in the world did you thread the Ultra Minis into the Ref10 control unit? Of course, the base just spins on the threaded stud with the small nut on it, so you can't just spin it up like you can with the Ultras—and the nut (1/4") is fairly narrow, so a typical box end wrench is fatter than the nut. Plus, I wouldn't want to risk scratching the bottom of the unit sliding a wrench in close.

I managed to start them with a small box end wrench, then I just spun them repeatedly. Every now and then enough friction would twist the stud up another 1/4 to 1/2 a thread at a time until I got them close. They're not snug, I'll wait until I get my hands on one of those "dealer special" wrenches!

dev, what was the change you heard when you started using them?

I need to get acoustic treatments for my room first, but am definitely interested in these as I've heard nothing but great feedback on them. Do you think it will have a pronounced effect even over carpeted concrete?

I use the Ultra SS under the Ref 110 on carpet over concrete and absolutely love them.

Hi Nelson,

Once again, all of this is very education stuff that you guys are sharing here, and I for one am loving the attitude towards tweaks as they relate to Isolation Devices/Platforms more so then most, but then again, I've always seen myself as an open-minded type to tweaks in general, as well as a believer.

Please continue to re-educate my mind, I'm loving it.

Regards,
