Step Up Transformers

I just added the Bent Audio MU SUT, now considered unobtainium and fetches a kings ransom but worth it. I got a nice bump in gain over the Jensen (26 db vs. 20), which in itself improved matters with my carts under .3mv. If you can get your hands on one I highly recommend it.

Bent Audio is a good name for a company that makes SUTs! It kind of matches the FR curve of many SUTs. :P Sorry Rob, I couldn't resist!

Hey Guys, looking for a little help if possible?

Given my setup:

VPI Classic 2
Ortofon Cadenza Bronze on JMW10.5 arm (.4mv output & 5ohm internal impedance / DC resistance)
Ortofon Cadenza Mono on JMW10.5 arm (.45mv output & 5ohm internal impedance / DC resistance)
(proposed) Sentec EQ-11 Tube MM Phono (specs a little confusing to me)
(proposed SUT option #1) Bob's Devices SKY 20 Cinemag (1:10 / 1:20 - 20 setting preferred)
(proposed SUT option #2) Ortofon ST-80 SE

Would this setup get me close to 60-ish db output for spinning LP's?

My goal (within budget for the "proposed" units above) is to have a complete phono stage capable of providing the differing EQ curves for older mono LP playback AS WELL as have great sound/playback for more modern RIAA stereo LP's.

My main phonostages today are both tube + SUT types. I really like the Silvercore SUTs in my Valvet (1 x 1:10 & 2 x 1:20 pairs). I also have external SUTs. I have the Koetsu for my Koetsu and MY Sonic Labs for my TechDAS carts. Are they better than active stages? No free lunch as someone has already posted. One thing for sure is that at least in my system which I have seen make people jump out of their seats, dynamics is not a problem. Another thing for sure is that if you go with an external SUT, the choice of IC from SUT to MM input is critical.

I cycled thru a few and found it really is cartridge specific - two of my cartridges sound best into arc ref 2se mc gain. My Miyajima zero mono likes the bobs cinemag SUT and my Goldfinger statement plays well with audio note SUT then into air tight 2001 mm input. I think SUTs are an area where try before you buy is warranted.

I opted for the Auditorium A23 SPU SUT to match with the new phono stage.

Both should be here this Friday so hoping to get some listening in over the weekend!

I went with the K&K premium SUT to use with my BAT VK-P5 for my Cadenza Bronze and couldn't be happier. It is so good that I no longer am looking at purchasing an uber phono amp.

I have an A23, a Bob's 1131 Blue, and for my Lyra Etna discovered a whale of an SUT, the Lyra Erodion. It's a real heavyweight and quite expensive. I was able to wait and pick it up used, and would highly recommend it for any of Lyra's cartridges with specs close to the Etna.
