I know this is a big faux pas among audio professionals, but I honestly have to question the set up at the Steinheim room.
They put the speakers VERY FAR apart, and put just three rows of seating, scrunched together. AND, to make matters worse, put a divider right behind the third row, so if you sat there, your ears would be very close to the divider.
So, depending on where you sat, you got no soundstage, sounds were simply coming from the two speakers. You really had to sit in the center seat to get any semblance of a center fill... It took me a few attempts to nab that coveted sweet spot position (1st/2nd row too), so once there, the sound was good, big, impressive in that that "hi fi" sense like Mike put it.
