When buying speakers I always get hopelessly confused about what I want. Yesterday I spend some time listening to the Blumenhofer FS3mkII. It's a wonderful dynamic speakers. It was powered by a pass int60a, Aurender n10 and I think a meitner dac. The sound was dynamic and fun to listen to. However compared to some other speakers in the same price range it lacked some lower bass. Maybe because it's a two way horn.

Also speaker like the Raidho C1 and D1 are much more accurate or detailed. But don't give the live experience and dynamics the Blumenhofer gives. However few speakers image better and give a more coherent sound then two way stand mounts.

Big three way speakers give better bass impact but often sound less coherent multiway speakers require more intricate filters which do not always help in terms of coherency and accuracy.

so when listening to say Simon and Garfunkel a Raidho C1 would be great. Blumenhofer for rock and metal. And something like a watt puppy 6/7 for UB40.

So are there affordable speakers that can do all. I know I should set a priority. And at the moment I'm not really looking for new speakers. But just thinking about it drives me nuts.

You ask a question that really only you can answer.

Out of your auditions there should be one, maybe more, that you find engaging, and if, in your system, when you have to go, you can't wait to get back to. A lot like a girlfriend :) And, this should be despite the name, reputation, status etc. To be honest there's some expensive speakers out there I couldn't have in my system, they just don't do anything for me.

If you haven't found one you are passionate about then keep looking.

Keep looking and listening. A great speaker should do it all well.

Any tips are welcome

I have had some bad experience with some well known high end brands. But I doubt it was the speakers themselves. I've been to demo's where the combo speakers and amps just don't work IMHO but since these brands often have the same distributor they often get paired.

Another time the demo was with brand new speakers. It was bad.

For a while I thought these brands were bad but that wasn't really the case. A bad demo can damage a brands name.

But I'm also trying to think out of the box a little an look at fully active speakers. Like the ME Geithain 901K1

The most overlooked component is the room itself. Keep looking and find something you can live with (and believe me when for a 6 year period when I did deliveries/installs with a friend who worked at a high end shop I saw many nice things that sounded bad due to the room - the person read a review and that was the deciding factor for purchase vs. their own ears and time listening). That's one reason why I have several systems (even my office speakers are good - picked up a pair of demo Selah Audio SA2s). Instead of selling things many times I find myself just rotating things to secondary systems. It's not that any of them are bad, it's just nice to have something a bit different. Had a couple of friends over a few weeks ago and one wanted to hear my GR Research N3s I had in my upstairs bonus/guest room so we did that for a bit. Unless you're going to have the performs live in you house in front of you when you want to it, I don't know that anything you find will be perfect.

Right you are. Our former Sonus Faber dealer always had them with Sim Audio, not the best combo to my ears, so I never was a fan of SF, I heard them at an audio show with Mac, and my favorite, with Jadis, then I realized they could sound good. Same sort of thing with B&W, always with Classe or ARC, not until I heard them with something else did I begin to suspect they could sound good. Of course, these combinations I didn't care for, some may love. We all hear and like things differently.

It's also good to "think, or look, out of the box" there's powered speakers, there's also electrostats, open baffle etc. Just take your time and have some fun.
