Dave, I'll share my little speaker journey. About 5 yrs. ago I was looking to upgrade from my PSB Synchrony 1's. The PSB's were so good at their price point that I was having a hard time finding better. Initially I had dismissed listening to the Revel Ultima series because I couldn't wrap my head around all those metal drivers. But I kept reading review after review raving about them, so I went to a dealer and listened for myself.
The demo completely took me by surprise, I told the dealer to order me a pair right then.
I ended up becoming very good friends with my dealer,David Baskin, until he passed away. After that, I became enamored with the Raidho brand of speakers and ended up ordering a pair of Raidho D3 v2's. I absolutely loved them, at least on 80% of my music. But the Raidhos have a mid-bass hump that started to make me crazy. On bass heavy music, and at loud volumes, it finally was too much. So I sold them.
Then after hearing the Dali Epicon 8's, I ordered a pair of them. They sounded fantastic, but for some reason they bothered my tinnitus in my right ear. It wasn't anything I could hear, so I was confused what the problem was. So even though I really loved their sound, they had to go.
So I called David and ordered another pair of Salon 2's. I've been thrilled with them every day since. The Salon 2's have maybe the best tweeter in the world, it's so sweet, but still gives everything a tweeter should. Combine the Hegel H30 with the Salons and you get magic.
Joe had Studios combined with Conrad Johnson and said it was maybe the best system he's ever owned.
I don't see how you can go wrong with Revel, especially when paired with the right electronics.
