Today I had a chance to hear one of AJ's speakers. AJ is the owner of Sound Field (Home).

AJ was kind enough to bring his speakers over to Jeff's for a listen. Jeff is the one who bought the Polymer MKS-X speakers ($60,000/pair MSRP). Those are back getting "fixed". I'll bite my tongue and say no more on that.

AJ's stand mount speakers don't play anything like a stand mount. Somehow, he has managed to get a seamless blend between the ribbon tweeter, bottom woofer and subwoofers (in the side). The speakers are also active. Add your favorite preamp and source and enjoy - and enjoy we did.

They image big and deep, with a smooth top end. The speakers present a very lively soundstage.

Did I like them better than the Polymers in Jeff's room? Oh yeah.

Price? "About $4500-5000/pair".

I hope AJ shows these at RMAF this year.

Well done!!

Interesting Jock, were they prototype speakers? No information I could see on the website.

Are speakers sold with purpose built stands?

Looks like an interesting new entrant. Sound Field needs to complete its website!

Hi Ralph - it's me Mike.

No idea .... But hopefully AJ will weigh in here. Hard to believe the clean deep bass these babies produced. Smooth highs with that ribbon tweeter. And complete adjustability for dialing into every room situation. Color me impressed.

Hi Mike,

Hey, didn't realize I was getting a mini-review! Almost missed this.
Just thought I'd show JC my latest project. I think he liked them.
Btw, it's Soundfield, all one word.:)
Not a ribbon, but a planar magnetic mid-tweeter. Sort of a horn loaded Maggie. Runs down to 900hz in these...which are a custom version of my M2 (on website) for a gent in Canada. He said no subs allowed in room (wife's decree!), put them in the main speakers, which will be sitting atop a room wide 24" H cabinet. So I deepened the M2 boxes and added dual opposing/force cancelling 8" subs, actively driven by a subwoofer plate amp (300w rms).
That's one benefit of a small custom builder, is that I can, well, modify/customize my speaker designs to individuals needs/room, etc. (within reason of course)
Thanks for the kind words.
Sorry, just too buried with orders and design work to make RMAF this year. Or any other show. Hope to resume the circuit in 2015.

AJ - could you build a pair where only the sub was active? People could then use some sweet little tube amp for the driver/tweeter. Connect like my Spatials.

Hi Ralph,

They are custom versions of the M2s on the site. Fully active, with subs built in. No custom stands with these. The M2A on the site has custom stands which hold the woofer amp (the woofer is active, the planar mid-tweet is passive - 101db sensitivity, Positive Feedback review forthcoming). That was not an option with these, customer wanted everything "on board".
Yes, I do need to complete the website!!:)
As noted, a bit busy at the moment, but I'll get there. Best regards.

cheers,

AJ

I do. The M2A, although it's more 8 inch "woofer" than sub, but it's pretty potent, as I've demoed: RMAF 2013: Newcomers (LRE, Soundfield) | Confessions of a Part-Time Audiophile
I can/have done one with an actual subwoofer driver that will dig deeper (mid 20s), but most folks don't think the standard one is lacking there. All my (box) designs are sealed, so the go deceptively deep in real rooms.

cheers,

AJ

Hey it's my first post. Mike nice to meet you at RMAF. I too head these ans thought they were very clear and very tight. I was duly impressed.
