Soulution 511 monos unboxing

Blue Circle is famous for applying Silicone RTV to their components to dampen, insulate and isolate them. Clear was a big choice, this is the first time I see white.

They're famous for that? :weird:

Mep's right that the Silicone RTV is a cosmetic eyesore. It is especially surprising to see it when the point-to-point wiring and thorough handiwork is so attractive to behold. But Gilbert is adamant that it helps the sound. Its ability to withstand mechanical and thermal stress is legendary. No question it is ugly.

I've been told that the use of negative feedback is what makes the Soulution sound so amazing. The implementation is revolutionary and takes distortion down by another degree. The superabundance of capacitance in the power supplies of Soulution is also noteworthy. This latter aspect is neither new nor particularly difficult to implement. Manufacturers are just reluctant to pay for more capacitors and consumers don't like the space it takes up. But it helps the sound. My preamp from Blue Circle has over 300,000 mF in its power supply. Gilbert Yeung of Blue Circle has long been an advocate of superabundant storage in the power supply. In fact he argues that no amount is too much. It just keeps sounding better.

Its a beautiful design ( Soulution ) for sure , but PSU capacitance and Design in regards as to how much to use is much more involved than that , same as the use of negative feedback amount or not ..

PSU,

If really serious all amps would have a fully regulated supply not large capacitance , which is cheaper to do, than fully regulated..

fully regulated would require 2 chassis ...

I installed my 511's (mono) around the first of November. Basically, I never turn them off.
I can say they need all of 9 weeks, 1500+ hours to break in. The ups and downs with these amps are significant, especially for the first 200 hours.
If u are going to evaluate, make sure they are fully broken in.

Once settled, they are formidable. Totally silent, black backgrounds, dynamic, transparent and utterly neutral. Perfect amount of detail.

I haven't tried different PC's yet......

What preamp and other components do you have the 511's matched up with?

I've ALWAYS wanted Soulution monos since I first heard the 501's. Now with the 511's, it's another peg up. I've had the preamp for a while, but I've been saving for the amps. In a word: endgame. Wait, didn't someone already say that? Seriously. Incredible.

so, how are the 511 behaving after the long break-in? Do you still have them paired with the M3?
How hot do they get when pushed?
thanks!

Yes. The 511's seem to be the overwhelming solid state amp favorite in my store with all the Magico's - including the M3's (but I don't have my new Vitus SM-103 monos yet). They get warm when pushed, but never "hot" like a class A or tube amp. You can put your hand on them for several seconds.

Thanks. For how much time did you have them running before your felt they reached their full potential?

An additional note about sound quality and heat. The Soulution 500 Series are Class AB amps but are heavily biased into Class A. This means they will be operating in Class A mode most of the time for maximum sound quality except for very dynamic passages. This also means they run near maximum warmth while at idle. While my 501 monoblocks were very warm at idle, they were never too hot to touch and they didn't get appreciably warmer at higher volumes. Compared to my Pass XA-100.8 monoblocks, the 501's put out significantly less overall heat. The Soulution amps do need adequate ventilation, so I wouldn't recommend anything above them or too close to the sides.

Best,
Ken

500 hours, but they continued to improve past 1000. I will tell you they are very sensitive to preamp pairing. I have to say, the Vitus Preamp is killer with them.

The coment about preamp is interesting. You prefer the Vitus to Soulution own 520? I believe they'll launch a new 525 in Munich
