Sonus Faber Aida's at 2 meters from front wall

Hardwood?

I'd like to know too. We need a thread on the perfect stereo room.
What to use what not to use. Dimensions , materials, furniture.

And mike if you ever need anything that's what I do. Flooring, trim , build walls, custom painting, Anything inside a house. I'd love to be a part of building an awesome stereo room. For free!!!!
I do exterior but hate it so I charge a fortune.lol

Thanks guys. Yes, I'm very fortunate. A dedicated room is terrific.

My wife is itching to move due to this massive mall (Opening October 16, 2014 - The Mall at University Town Center) they are building right near our house which will cause traffic nightmares. If we did, I've insisted on a 30 x 40 room with 10-12 foot ceilings.

Fortunately, land is cheap in Florida so long as you're not on the coast.

Sounds like the type of room those MBL's would work in. :)

On my other system, I moved certain furniture and went with the 82% rule and moved the speakers out about 2 feet from the front wall. The imaging is now much better. Everything has tightened up. The Studio 2's, with their down firing port, has the ability to much closer to a front wall then say a speaker like the Futuras with a rear firing port.

Care to elaborate on this 82% rule?

Measure left tweeter to left ear and right tweeter to right ear and assume its 140 inches and 141 inches (as an example). Then divide that by .82 and that will give you the approximate distance you should have your speakers from tweeter to tweeter. In this case ~115 inches.

Mike...you mean multiply by 0.82 to get 115 inches :D If you divide by 0.82, you will get a distance greater than 140 inches

Doug, Jim Smith is a setup expert. He's the author of "Get Better Sound". It's a great book, I recommend it all the time !! 82% is a rough estimate of what he's found to work, as a general guideline. It's not an absolute rule, rooms and speakers can vary that figure, but it's a good place to start.

Hey Mark...did you sign up on Kickstarter to fund his new project (Through The Sound Barrier - TTSB)? He is going to be putting out a book, CD, and DVD that actually walks you through how to voice the speaker to the room in a step-by-step (unlike Getting Better Sound which was kind of an aggregation of principles, rules of thumb, tweaks, etc...). In TTSB, he will be providing specific tracks to on the CD to use when voicing the speakers to the room and telling the user what to listen for when the speakers are dialed in properly. The DVD will have the step-by-step walk through of the process.

I missed the Kickstarter funding stage (I believe he raised 3X his initial goal of $30K) but I will gladly pay the $100 retail when it comes out (sometime in late September/early October...it's been delayed a bit but not too far off now).

I look forward to this.

+1. I find it is a great starting point. I have found it doesn't work with all speaker types (i.e. planar speakers). But Jim's 82% guide is a great starting point.

Thanks Mike. I'll check mine out tomorrow and see how close they are.
