Something happened with my Electric in the Storm the other night

Surge protection works best when it's cascaded in 3 layers. One on the main panel, one at a subpanel, and one at the equipment rack.
You also need an isolator like an isomax on your data coax.
And your earth ground needs to be highly effective, in order to drain the charge from the surge protection devices

Daryl's EP2050 is an ok lightning protection device. It is best used for transient voltage spikes under 40 volts over 120 from stuff like smps, or motors in the house turning on and off. A large 80ka unit.like the SqD one does not work at low voltages. The SqD or Eaton 80kA start working at surge levels around 150 volts over 120 and up.
