Just wondering if there are any other soccer fans here? The main teams I follow are Tottenham Hotspur in the EPL and the Columbus Crew in MLS. I do enjoy international soccer too.

I'm not sure I'm a fan but I'm learning. My team is the Portland Timbers. This all started last year when my wife and I bought a condo 2 blocks from the Timbers stadium in Portland and went to a couple of games.

I always enjoy watching the Premier League. I like the way they play compared to some of the other leagues. There are some teams more than others that I like to watch but basically it's anybody but Man. U! I haven't been able to get into the MLS for some reason. I'll keep trying...

Matt...of course you know who I support.

Doug...you are the enemy :D I have been a Spurs supporter since I was 11/12 going back to 1981! This has been a very painful relationship as they have always been a middling table but have always had the promise of being greater than they really are. This will be a very interesting year for your boys. Without Ferguson at the helm after some 27 years, Man U will be an interesting team to watch with David Moyes as Manager. Glad to see we you are an EPL fan.

Cyril, I said anybody BUT Man U! They're like the Yankees of professional soccer. Always trying to buy the best players to win championships. Hey, nothing wrong with that I just don't agree with it. I watched the EPL religiously many years ago and don't even recognize most of the players anymore. Thierry Henry plays for the MLS now? Huh?

If I had to pick a favorite team it would be Liverpool or Arsenal. Ok flame away... :)

Doug...oops. Sorry I misread that :D

If you ever decide you want to watch it again, there are two sports cable channels that televise most of the EPL games, and a decent number of Serie A (Italian), and La Liga (Spanish) games. The channels are Fox Soccer Channel and Fox Soccer Plus Channel. You can enquire with your cable os satellite dish provider.

Absolutely. Worth. Watching.

(I tend to be more into the national teams/world cup type matches over the pro leagues.)

Cyril, NBC now has the rights to broadcast the EPL. Starting this year the games will no longer be on Fox. There is a channel here that I get on cable called GOLTV and it broadcasts the German Bundesliga which I plan to start watching more of this fall. The Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, French Ligue 1 and English Championship leagues are shown on BEin sports that hardly anyone can get.

+1

Like you I am into the international matches and tournaments rather than weekly league play. I have been following these since I became hooked while in Germany in the early '70's.

Matt...thanks for the heads up. So Fox Soccer will no longer be televising EPL games at all?

E/Jim...World Cup 2014 in Brazil coming up soon :exciting:

Jim...I did not see it. I will check out YouTube highlights.

Cyril
I have been watching the qualifying. Not too many surprises yet.

Did you watch the Confederation Cup Final yesterday? Brazil handled Spain much easier than most would have predicted. The game would have been a bit closer if Spain hadn't missed that penalty kick or David Luiz hadn't made that incredible goal line save.

Jim, you're right on about it being a much closer game than the final score showed. Spain could have had that game if only a couple things had gone differently.

Doug...they did: 1-0. Not a very good showing for them. They are currently dealing with all the speculation about selling Bale to Real Madrid which has caused a lot of commotion and lack of focus at the club. We will know what finally happens in another two weeks on that front. As for today's game, they did alright but I am hoping the team starts gelling a lot better as we move forward. I am watching the Chelsea-Hull game right now and I think Chelsea are going to be the team to beat this season.

Cyril, I think you may be right about Chelsea this year.

The thing I love about the EPL is that I don't have any regional connection so I can enjoy the games I watch without "needing" one team in particular to win. Of course there are some that I like more than others. Cough, cough, Liverpool, cough cough. :)

I think Spurs' and Liverpool's fates this season will depend on what happens in the end in the transfer season (sale of Suarez in case of Liverpool and Bale in case of Spurs and who they can bring in their stead with the money from their sale). If Suarez stays and Liverpool signs Willain (Brazilian midfielder), I think Liverpool has a decent chance of breaking into the top 4 and hence qualify for Champions League football next season. If Spurs keep Bale and we can get Contreaio in left back and maybe Lamella as left wing, we will definitely make top 4. But those are two big ifs. We'll see how it plays out Doug. I am pretty anxious over next two weeks as the transfers get finalized.
