There is always a BUT...

Industry news...very interesting yes? But if I wanted to read a magazine I would join one. When I come to AS, the first thing I click is "New posts". I want to see what people have to say. But every morning (and now it is worse), two pages of Industry News ? Really guys ?

PS Audio started this and now ToneAudio and Stereophile. No disparagement to them but could they keep it to ONE POST with a link to their other thoughts elsewhere?

Sorry, but I think the mods need to be engaged because this would be like me posting 20 of my thoughts (in separate new threads) every morning.

Rob - These are RSS feeds that are gathered and then released at a specific period of time. Our site is programmed to pick these feeds up the minute they become available. There is no way to trickle them in and don't blame the magazines or shoot the messenger (me). I took the liberty of bringing these feeds to Audioshark to add CONTENT for us to discuss. AS therefore becomes the one stop for most things audio news related. If the feeling of all the members is to stop this, fine, I will end the RSS feeds immediately.

....I don't like that they all come in at once, but there is no way to control this. I had this discussion with our developers weeks after we went live (and several times afterwards).

I quite like them and scan the titles for anything I might be interested in.

Keep in mind, the RSS feeds are posted in the appropriate section (News) - but they are NEW posts when we receive them.

But if the majority feels otherwise, I will end the RSS feeds.

I agree with Rob that they're are a pain in the neck to weed through but I also agree with Mike and there is occasionally something I want to read. I just filter through them and then hit the "Mark Forums Read" button up on top and don't have to see them again.

Mike, I agree they add value and not to stop the feed.

I disagree with the developers on being able to filter...sigh.

Anyone in the industry knows when a developers says "we can't do that"..fire the developer because it means "I don't know how to do that".

Sorry but as a guy "in the know"...its not acceptable. BUT if they say Mike, we can do that but its going to cost a bazillion dollars...that's another story...

Always on your side...Rob

I am going to be honest here and say all of those threads actually keep me from spending more time on the site. Like many others I usually hit the New Posts link but often these links are just too much to sift through.

Right on!

Certainly not my feeling.

Me I like them; I always check them all, and if I find one that is of interest to me personally, then I reply.
It is so easy to scroll and go pass them (for people without interest in the latest Audio/Music/Video news).

All in all I agree with you Mike. Besides, I like to be a well informed audio/music lover.

_____________

<<<>>>> There is much more positive in them feeds that there is in people complaining about them. ...I truly think. :)

And! If it is truly an issue for some people, we can always have a democratic vote. ...I would abide by the majority's choice.

But before you do, know this: Mike had a unique and positive vision when he elected this great feature.
At the beginning I was not familiar and then felt somehow disoriented; but it didn't take me too long to realize the true benefit, and the colorful variation it brought to AudioShark. It is a unique and positive feature here at the aquarium, and I'm truly happy by Mike's positive approach to make this site even more attractive to all.
- Don't complain, just go pass it if you don't like it. :) ...Or learn to love the positive in stuff, and in life.

Just wait 1 day and come back. Only 1 page of new posts today.

I do read some of them but another trick is to hit new posts, then go to the last page where all the regular ones are if they have not yet been touched. The ones that were will be right at the top of page 1 before all the feeds.

Cheers!

I have removed AudioShark from my favorites because of this problem. Just happen to see this Thread on the few and lessening times I am accessing the forum.

Looks like the consensus is to remove the industry feeds. Fair enough. I will have the programmer make the change.

Ouch ..now I feel bad I said anything. I myself was not looking to get the feeds eliminated, just off the daily new posts page...:(

Maybe get some more feedback Mike?

Mike, make sure you get a fair representation of opinions. Remember it is usually us "negative" types that let our opinions be known. Those who are happy weren't going to say anything.

For the record, i didn't really vote either way, just came up with a way to deal with them on my own. It,s not that big a deal. Hey at AudioKarma a hit on New Posts gets me 19 or 20 pages every morning. I think I will request they suppress all Vintage and Dumpster Diving threads to narrow it down to a couple pages.

LOL, I did not realize earlier that they were feeds and not actual posts added by those involved. No wonder Paul never responds in the threads.

They've never bothered me & on occasion I look at the headings & want to read the odd one. The only reason I'd abandon the feed was for bandwidth reasons.

I'm not a big fan of their coming all at once, but I do like cherry picking through the articles. I for one wouldn't want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

See Mike? It swings the other way...I am a team player so if more people find value, I can deal with it..I thought there might have been an easier way to filter...
