Hi, I just finished the home demo with the Giscours and D'Yquem mono and I loved the combination but my wallets is not that heavy anymore after the speakers purchase so I decide to go with one by one.

Should I go with better pre or better amp ?

I am interesting in Masseto or Vosne-Romanee as pre and Cortese , Haut Brion or Montille CV391 Version as power amp ( Yes I will upgrade to D'yquem later )

any input would greatly appreciate.

why dont you start with the more moderately priced shindo gear first than upgrade each one as the funds grow back into your bank account? if you had to get one id get the pre first and deal with your 275's for now and then get the amps later. the pre is your heart and soul.

As most people recommend to go with better pre first but I tried these and found weird results.

Shindo Giscours + MC275 = Just Ok

McIntosh Pre + Shindo D'yquem = Better.

well i think you have your answer. get the amps and live with the preamp.
i wonder how that setup would sound with an allnic phonostage?

The Shindo D'yquem seem to be a fantastic option. If you begin down this road you will end up with Shindo pre and power at the end of the day. Mix and match will do for the short term. You will also want to run Shindo IC's and A23 speaker cables for the full system synergy. There is nothing better IMHO.

I have no doubt that CDF will lead you in the right direction. However an email to Jonathan at Tone Imports with some questions may help you find a clear direction.

If I may butt in-- I personally would not mix current MacIntosh with Shindo.

Just a personal observation

Bruce

Hmmm- well looking at your setup--I'd go for the Tenors anyway rather than MacIntosh (Current versions anyway also over the Allnics I spied in the Mix.

Good Luck

Bruce

I never tried the Giscours with the 275 but Giscours + 225 is pure heaven.
McIntosh C1000P + CCQs was smoked by Giscours + CCQs.

Jerome is here ;)

I was waiting for you to chime in. :)

Do you think VR is good pre as well ? I might go with that and go with little cheaper amps. such as courtese or Montille 391( Not 6V6 )

Chris. Which version of Montille do you own ?

I think going either way will be fine because once you get 1 pc. of Shindo it has away of making you find the funds to do the complete Shindo setup. Before the Shindo I ran a pair of MC275's with a C2200 into LaScala IIs and that combo was amazing. But switching to Shindo was a huge leap forward.
