Sharks! Weigh-in: Kimber Select vs Kubala-Sosna Elation

As soon as everything falls into place, I plan on getting Kimber.

I have not tried Kubala and should have stated that in my response. I did compare the Kimber to Audioquest, Nordost TYR2, lower end Raidho cables and Shunyata cables. I so totally preferred the Kimber. The sound stage wrapped around the room. Vocals were to my liking. 3D and depth was awesome. I just loved it.

I'd just like to suggest you try the Kubala Sosna Emotion line as well. I've seen people prefer that over the Elations (not me, though). Two different presentations, though...

Joe Kubala is a great guy. Very smart. I know him well through Bill at GTT, the KRONOS distributor. Joe builds great sounding cables. I would have a tough time deciding - but since I already have all Kimber - I don't have to! :)

Kimber Select will be tough to beat at any price....and their cables, to me, are fairly priced.

They beat my much much more expensive Tara cables in multiple A:B comparisons,

The Kimber is so balanced and offers such great transparency. I went back and forth and with the Tara, I could hear a little more emphasis on the lower mids and more of a veiled sound compared to the crystal clear, slightly sweet Kimber.

Two cables I would love to try are Crystal and Siltech. Heard great things about both.

Mike which model Kimber Select speaker cables and interconnects did you use for the comparison?

Hi Ian,

FWIW, I am cabling my K-1, 520, 501 and D-3 system with Kimber Select KS-1116 interconnects and KS-6063 speaker cables. Kimber Select are wonderful sounding cables, offer incredible value and are extremely well built. I have heard the Kubala-Sosna Elation in a dealer's system and they sounded really fine too.

I am a big fan of Kimber too.
FWIW, I use KS1130 XLR between Esoteric K-01 and Ayre K-5xeMP preamp, Silver Streak XLR from preamp to Bryston 28 SST monos and KS 6063 sc to VA The Music.

I have pairs of KS-1116, KS-6063 and PK-10 Palladian on the way from the Cable Co to audition. Should be fun. Cable Co doesn't rent Kubala-Sosna though. :(

That's funny, I was just looking at The Cable Company for you and I also discovered they don't carry Kubala-Sosna. But the Kimber Select cables that you are auditioning are really outstanding. Please let us know your thoughts.

Perhaps GTT Audio would loan you some Kubala-Sosna Elation so you could compare to Kimber Select.
