S.E.T. - I am obsessed now ....

Yeah chasing boxes can be expensive and takes away from listening. Just this weekend I sat and compared my finalists - solid state biased in class A, a 80 wpc tube, and my existing reference constellation centaur. The one where I get lost in the music and the sounds wash over me and are rich and textured and palpable and the entire frequency range is present and space goes up down front back left right is the constellation centaur - interestingly designed to sound like an SET by John Curl. It struck me - I need to park my OCD behind me. My system sounds better than it ever has and likely ever will so I need to quit second guessing my ears. As the doobie brothers lyric says "listen to the music"

Ok guys - try to keep the foul language down. We have ladies here.

As for Joe, he doesn't need saving. He's experiencing gear. Amp wise, he has more in home reference points than anyone I know. He's enjoying his music WHILE gaining new reference points. If he had stuck with just one amp - he would never have discovered the magic of SET's (I better not send him my OTL or that will be a whole new level of lust).

Let me tell you a story. I have a friend named Jared who buys and sells Exoctic cars as fast as many people change amps. He had a gorgeous Audi RS8 for about 4 months, traded it for a Aston Martin which I was head over heels for and then traded that after 5 months for the new two seater Jaguar. There were many cars before that and there will be many after that. When he traded the Aston Martin - I was a little annoyed with him - I loved that car! But for him, it's about experiences. Different driving experiences. Sure, he could buy a Toyota Camry and be done - but no, he's all about the thrill of the new ride. I get it. He's financially able to do it - so all the power to him.

People in a hobby love to try different things. It's no different than the guy who swaps golf drivers or putters after every few rounds (I know those guys too) or guys who collect guitars because they like the different sounds.

So, Joe doesn't need saving. He's fine, just fine by me.

Indeed Mike. I don't see what the problem is with trying different gear if one has the means to do so.

Like I once told Joe and a few others, the only problem comes in is when you stop listening to the music, get into a rut and listen only to the gear. You know, like when you listen to one certain album or a few certain songs then on to the next piece of gear just the same thing over and over not really spending any time just listening to the music you feel like to see if the gear can transport you by allowing you to ride the music itself. If one watches out for that, then it's all good.
I do not believe Joe is even near that point.

Apologises Mike,

Forgive me the foul language, as I wasn't aware of the presence of females being part of the forum, yet it's inexcusable either way, so I'll tone it down. And the story hits home as well, I guess in many ways, it is about the thrill of exploring the unknown universe as in one of my current favorite movies - Star Trek ( loved the originals, but the graphics on the newer two, have me all in ) Space like ones system, I see as the Final Frontier.

So, with that being said, I'll try my hardest not to be a back seat driver, and merely trust the driver knows his/her desination, and we can all arrive there safely?..........., onwards and outwards I'd say..........., forgive my ill usage of words there young ladies.

Naw...what you see as being a problem aint really a problem for others. They love listening to boxes. My blind friend, who has a nice system, seems to only listens to boxes and gets a thrill out of the different interpretations. So when you think about it.....the opinion is really in the thoughts of the beholder. Its all subjective aint it? Oh aint this a great hobby?

True, to each their own.

Ooooooooh, I like that one :)

I knew that you would........., but do yourself a favor, and call Dale Shepard up from Eugene HiFi in Oregon, and inquiry about them, as he has had these as well as the LM Audio electronics in his shop.

In some cases, power corrupts, when in fact more finesse or musicality goes a long ways, if an amp drives the speakers and ones space well!, then consider it a wrap. O_oh, o_oh, I'm starting again............, check please! it's time for me to go.

It shall always be subjective at best, as none of it is prefect, regardless of cost, it all comes back to Synergy, and their ability to " Click with one another ", it's a joke, it's a fact.............., some just gel when used in tandem, while some struggle to make a noise that resembles music, yes............, it's a beautiful hobby, I should add.

I am a Voyager man myself, the Science is just more developed. Plus running the Intrepid Class starship way, way beyond its supposed design limitations is a plain old thrill!

Didn't mind Enterprise at all.
Cant stand Deep Space 9 as that is just a soap opera! LoL

Thank you Oscar. I think I'll stay put for a while. I'm having waaaaaaaay too much fun with the gear that I do have. Heck, some of it is still brand new in the box :)

Life is good. Thank you for the tube recommendations, we'll talk for sure. I appreciate your knowledge and sharing it with me.

Good one there Norman, I love it. And have to agree Avery Brooks, nice speaking voice and all, was a terrible actor in Deep Space 9, and Voyage on............, once again, we all have our life stories to share, do we not?.

Can't say that I agree. :( DS9 IMHO trumped them all. As we all now, this series was closer to what Roddenberry actually envisioned for ST.

Your welcome Joe,

That's great news, and I do apologize to you as well, seeming that you're the age of my youngest sibling of four, I guess I'm not aware of trying to hard to be the big brother type, whom merely wishes all of my family members to understand the choices we make in life are our own, but do affect others around them, so for being overly protective at times, is something I've to learn about just sitting back, and watch where each of you go?, but know that if I'm ever needed?, I'm always a click away.

Life is good..........., but no one is granted tomorrow, so live it wisely as I tell my children, and once again on the tube issue, I'm not a guru, none trying to be, but there are some areas in our shared hobby, I've gone the extra mile in just gaining a clearer path of the truth in regards to something the tube components run on and need to function on a whole, and can be used to alter the voicing process just enough to unlock the inner beauty of something that might otherwise be misunderstood or unappreciated.

Live it............, Love it, but always, always Enjoy it, in the end, the musicality speaks for itself.
