Roon problems

OP, shouldn't you be posting this on the Roon forum?

That will do a lot of no good....the OP will most likely get brow beat into submission by the Roon fanboys over there...basically a usless forum

Well, that hasn't been my experience. I've gotten lots of help from the people over there and it's always my first stop when I have questions about Roon.

not my experience either. i find the community helpful and exceedingly knowledgeable / experienced not only with roon but also with all things computer audio.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I swapped everything over to the 5ghz band and it is much more stable now.

This confirms it is indeed a WiFi issue (even if happens to work well for other non-Roon purposes).

This is why I hate Roon bugginess. It just hangs and we get this.

In regards to Roon, a previous update to the Roon application has broken many Bricasti Streamers and DAC/Streamers. I have had multiple conversations with Brian (owner of Bricasti) and reported a problem with my Bricasti M5 not being recognized by Roon anymore. He said there are multiple customers where Roon stopped recognizing several Bricasti DAC/Streamers and the M5. Brian mentioned that Roon as had an M5 for two years to use for testing but they obviously didn't test this prior release. The fix for me was to open the M5, remove the SD card, flash with a new firmware version and reinstall.

Needless to say Bricasti isn't very happy with Roon right now.

In addition to my above comments, I have owned an NAD M10 Integrated Amp/DAC/Streamer for one and a half years it still isn't Roon Ready. Roon shows it as Uncertified. After multiple emails with Roon and NAD there is no solution, and they point fingers at each other. I love the Roon interface, but I regret purchasing Roon.

Over the last year and a half I have experienced random lockups and weird behavior with the NAD M10 and there is no solution in sight. When I purchased the NAD M10 it was shown as Roon Ready on NAD's website, however there is no mention of Roon on the NAD website for the M10. Sigh...

I love Roon when it works, but it was a major PITA when I was running Roon core on my iMac, my music library was on a NAS, and I was controlling it on an iPad. When using the iPad, it was constantly unable to locate the core. Worked better with iPhone but the screen is too small. Was NOT a network problem. FINALLY started working almost flawlessly once I scrapped the iMac/NAS and bought a totaldac d1-player which held both the music library and a Roon core.

@Dth31 - I experienced the same thing as you. I was running Roon core on my iMac with my music library on a NAS. I moved to an Antipodes DX2 Music Server, which runs Roon Core and is also a Roon Ready network player. I have seen issue decreases substantially.

Mike It has to be something in your set-up. You know all the issues I had 18 months ago. Since I made a few changes I haven't had a single issue since.

I will say I do not have to deal with all of the variables you do in your store. Do you have issues on your home set-up?

Yes, same issues at home. My guess is that it’s the size of my music library. The Nucleus is just choking on it.

I was thinking about that issue. With the availability of Qobuz and Tidal do you really need to maintain (own) a large number of music files and store them on your servers. When you are demoing gear for a customer it is just as easy to find and play if from one of the sites rather than hogging up space on your servers.

The ripped files sound better IMO.

I used Roon for about a year. Loved the user interface but it brought some complexities that I didn’t care to deal with in my system. Dropped and strictly using the Lumin app which may not be as elegant but it works pretty flawlessly.

Mike, I find Roon much easier to use than wither the Lumin or Aurender apps. Neither of those are intuitive IMHO. Maybe I find Roon easier since I don't use or care about many of the capabilities within Roon.

Agree Jim. It is a more elegant UI.

However, in addition to streaming, I play a lot of my files in the Lumin NAS. This feature is not supported Roon which requires my iMac be active all the time (which is typically not). So, for me, is not a good solution.

I was unaware that you could not point Roon to files on Lumin drives.

Don’t get me wrong I like the Lumin devices And their support is top notch.
