We lost the world's greatest mountain climber today, the Swiss Machine, Ueli Steck. He was only 41 years old. He was in the Himalaya training for an Everest-Lhotse traverse. He fell while climbing on Nuptse. A few years ago he soloed the South Face of Annapurna and he also held the record for fastest ascent of the North Face of the Eiger in under 3 hours. A huge loss to the climbing community. RIP Ueli.

Read about it, very unfortunate. Apparently accidents can happen even to the best in business.

Nuptse is a dangerous mountain. Alexey Bolotov died in 2013 while acclimatizing in the same area for a big Everest climb.

I believe his record was 2:28, but he also said that it can be done under 2h ... with greater risk ofc.

From what I've read, he fell off from an ice wall.

He was such a nice guy. Huge, huge loss. RIP.
