Leap Year may be a good time to check your remotes.

I was turning on my equipment this morning. I like the screens on my ARC amps turned off so I grabbed the remote. Part way through dimming the remote stopped working. I figured, oh well time for new batteries.
When I opened it up both of the Duracell batteries had leaked Substantially. Fortunately no damage to the remote just a lot of scraping of the leaked substance.
Opened my ARC pre remote and found the same, just not as bad.

You all might want to take a look inside you remotes this weekend.
 
Thanks for the heads up! How old were the batteries that you removed? Asking because I have only ever witnessed battery leakage from AA or AAA batteries if they sit for 10 years or more. In otherwords, I don't think I've ever seen a failed and leaking battery in a 1 to 3 year timeframe with normal use.

I'm going to check my remotes today as well.
 
They were AAA and probably 2-3 years in both remotes. They were from the same batch that is long gone fortunately.
 
Alkaline batteries WILL leak when they are discharged to within 10% of their capacity regardless of how old they are. Smart electronics designers limit the amount of possible discharge to reduce this issue.
