It has always been my dream & desire to own Thorens and I did some 3 years back. a TD125 LB with a SME M2-12 arm done by Vinyl Nirvana. Boy, was it good.
However, I still harbour the dream of owning the both the TD160 BC Super MKII as well as the TD160 MKII, completely restored as close as possible to there original, meaning, with hinge covers, the Thorens Mat. The chance came and I called Dave (Vinyl Nirvana) for help in this.
The end result being one that has "almost everything I wanted, rebuilt like new, hinge and cover (mint/new) and mat (slight scuff, but not noticeable in picture). Almost as I had the motor changed to using an Origin Live Ultra speed/motor and because of this, the original speed selector was ripped out and replaced with a metal levelling gage for cosmetic reasons. The plinth is now solid Caribbean Rosewood.
So here it is, the 2nd beauty in my collection - to build a Vintage System playing vintage records. The arm is still the SME M2-9 (9 inch as against the one I used on the TD125 LB, which is a 12) with an Ortofon 2M Mono SE cartridge. yes, to play mono records only.
Here are the picture of the completed turntable. Hope to share the joy. Cheers!
